Full description
Visit Auschwitz-Birkenau on a day trip departing from Krakow. Explore the history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp complex on a guided tour with a certified educator, historian, and guide. Auschwitz-Birkenau was founded in 1940 by the Third Reich and was the largest Nazi-run concentration camp. Currently, it is the resting place of millions of people, mainly Jews and Poles, exterminated in the gas chambers. Upon arrival, you will visit the memorial museum in the outskirts of the city of Oświęcim, 60 kilometers west of Krakow. After traveling around an hour and a half, meet your professional guide for an in-depth tour. Walk through the famous "Arbeit macht frei" gate to enter Auschwitz I, where your guide will show you around the originally preserved site and explain the place's touching history. After a short break, visit the second camp at Birkenau where the mass murders took place as part of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Problem." At Birkenau, you will spend about an hour before meeting your driver for the return journey to Krakow.

Everything was exactly as promised. The pickup was on time, everything went exactly as promised. The visit is a story in itself, but so worth getting a reminder of how cruel we humans can be, so history never repeats itself. Travel time from Krakow is approx. 1h 15min and it takes approx. half an hour to move between Auschwitz and Birkenau. The guide on site was very good in English and very knowledgeable. Recommend.
