Iceland: 2 Day Trip Along South Coast

2. Iceland: 2 Day Trip Along South Coast

Depart from Rekjavik on a two day journey that will acquaint you with the natural wonders of Iceland's South Coast.  Day one begins with a drive from Reykjavik to visit four beautiful waterfalls: Gljufrabui, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. After making a stop for lunch, you will continue on to the well-known Sólheimajökull glacier for a unique 1.5 hour hike across the ice. From there, visit the world-famous Reynisfjara Beach and wander under basalt cliffs along the broad strip of jet black sand. Witness countless puffins, kittiwake, and fulmar hunting for fishes or taking off from nests set into the cliff face. At the end of the day, rest at the country guesthouse. Day two will bring you up close and personal with a majestic glacier lagoon. In the morning, stop at the Jökulsárlón, a stunning glacier lagoon filled with huge chunks of ice which crack off of Breiðamerkurjökull glacier and float slowly out to sea. Admire the icebergs that wash on shore and glimmer brilliantly against the vivid black sand and spot seals darting around icebergs that float out to sea. Next you will visit turf roofed church Hofskirkja and stunning Fjadrargljufur River Canyon. The canyon was formed a few thousand years ago during a glacial period, leaving a snaking river behind when the ice sheet retreated. After exploring the lagoon, you will be transported back to Reykjavik where you'll arrive around 9:30pm.

Christina provided me and my family with one of the best days of our lives. I kid you not! She changed the order of attractions to maximize the lighting on the beautiful waterfalls of seljalandsfoss and gljuifrabul. She expertly dressed and led us on solheimajokull glacier hike, teaching us so many interesting facts like how dangerous a moulin waterfall can be. It looked like a serene course of water going down a hole in the ice, little did we know this hole plunged the entire depth of the glacier, a bottomless pit. Christina showed us so many extras, beautiful Vik with its amazing off shore rock formations, nesting sites of cute little puffins, Eyjafjallajokull volcano site whose eruption back in 2010 disrupted European air travel. It was a long glorious 12 hour day full of wonders and surprises thanks to Christina.

The South Coast tour was the most enjoyable and beautiful experience of my 10-day trip to Iceland! And among all the tours I've been on, CHRISTINA is the best tour guide I've ever had! Christina kept a positive, enthusiastic attitude throughout the two days of the trip and brought positive energy to those around her. Very good at creating a lively atmosphere for everyone. Christina has great photo ideas and skills. I got so many awesome photos!! Also I really appreciate Christina's taste in music. I don't know how she found so much good music to suit the occasion perfectly. She also gave us a lot of useful advice and introduced a lot of history and stories about Iceland. An unforgettable experience!! I look forward to coming back to Iceland soon!
