7. Lanzarote: The North Face - Northern Valleys
The walk sets off from the northern village of Maguez. During the walk, cross valleys and colorful meadows, enjoy breathtaking views of the 500 meter high cliffs and visit villages of singular beauty.
One of the highlights of the hike is the charming village of Haria, located at the One Thousand Palm Tree Valley. The history of this village has a past marked by misery, exernal invasions and emigration. Nowadays, Haria is one of the most beautiful villages of the island and one of the best places to enjoy the traditional architecture of Lanzarote. On Saturday, it takes place on the only handicraft market of the island. You can also buy some homemade goat cheese, 'mojos' or tasty jams.
On the other hand, this part of the island houses one of the most important communities of endemic plants of Europe such the Verode (Aeonium lancerottense), Tojia (Asteriscus intermedius) and the Viborina de Lanzarote (Echium lancerottense) amongst others and is also home to some birds such as the Guirre (Egyptian Voulter) or Barbary falcon. The walk covers a distance of 10.50 kilometers of easy to moderate intensity.
