Full description
On this full-day tour travel to Azeitão, an area that’s well known for its wines and cheeses. Visit some of the region's top wine cellars and taste fine wines. The first stop is at the renowned cellars of José Maria da Fonseca, where you’ll learn about the winery’s history and sample some of its wines. Next visit Quinta de Alcube, a wine cellar owned by a family for over a century. It is a traditional cellar that produces only 250,000 bottles a year. The wines are sold directly to customers, making it difficult to find them in shops. In your third and final experience, taste up to 3 more wines in a mid-sized winery, or even the “Mother House” of the wine region, where you can see what most of the 21 different wineries produce in the region. You will also sample some traditional locally-produced cheese, bread, and other goods. In addition to all the tastings, marvel at the views of the Arrábida Natural Park and its mountain range.

My friend and I spent the day with Paulo, he was such a great tour guide. He listened to what we wanted to do and accommodated us well. The vineyards were all very different and the wine was lovely in all of them. The historical growers vs newer producers was interesting to experience. We asked to go for an authentic country lunch and we were not disappointed! This was probably the highlight as we got to sit and chat to our very witty tour guide. The food was exceptional and the company even more so. What a fantastic day, it felt like going for a day out with your friend (who didn’t mind driving). Would highly recommend for anyone who wants a day out of the city & loves good wine and food!

This tour was everything we wanted it to be! After all of the walking uphill that Portugal requires, it was nice to be carted around for a bit. Paolo was our tour guide and was phenomenal! He had an immense amount of knowledge about wine and Portugal's history - very proud of his country. He tailored the experience to what we wanted to do and brought us to an incredible tile store so we could see the tiles being hand-painted and purchase some beautiful pieces to take home. The wine at each stop was phenomenal and there was a generous portion of food at the second stop. Everything felt Covid-safe as masks were required in the vehicle and the inside part of the first wine tour. Highly recommend.

Our group of 4 had the most fun on our wine tour with João! He is incredibly hospitable and made the experience unpretentious and very accessible to those with deep wine backgrounds and those without (like me!). It felt less like a “tour” and more like hanging out with a good friend, despite the age and background difference (we are four black/brown women in our mid and late twenties), which I think is a testament to his welcoming and upbeat demeanor. If you’re visiting Lisbon, please take some time to explore Setubal and taste some fantastic wines!
