From Marrakech: Essaouira Private Full-Day Trip

4. From Marrakech: Essaouira Private Full-Day Trip

Take a full-day private trip to Essaouira, one of Morocco’s most attractive coastal towns. Admire its undeniable charm, with whitewashed and blue shuttered houses, art galleries, wood workshops, fishermen and colorful boats, all enclosed by ancient red walls. Your private tour starts with pickup at your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Depart Marrakech, driving through lush valleys filled with orange groves, ancient olive trees, and working farms. Stop at Chichaoua for a coffee or snack at Cafe Afoulki. Continue past your first Argan trees. These special trees are valued for their nutritive, cosmetic, and medicinal properties. A relic species from the Tertiary Period, it is extremely well adapted to drought and other environmentally difficult conditions of southwestern Morocco and, while now endangered, under the protection of UNESCO. Arrive in Essaouira and wander the ancient streets, where it’s easy to imagine life before you. The streets have a Portuguese feel after they renamed the city in the 16th century and used it as a port city of their own. Dine on fish straight from the sea at any number of local restaurants, and ride a camel on the beach. After some free time to explore on your own, return to Marrakech for drop-off at your hotel or riad.

This was an unforgettable trip, which I would highly recommend. The organisation from pickup to drop off was outstanding. Our guide Marwan, on the first day made sure we were well looked after and catered for, our driver was also very good. At the end of the day we were picked up in Asni by our driver and guide who drove us to our overnight stay in Ljoukak, Where we stayed overnight in the Maison dhant. The staff at Maison dhant were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. We arrived to a blazing open fire in the lounge area, attached to our bedroom. We were served dinner in our cosy lounge. It was Valentine’s Day so they made it really special and the 3 course meal was delicious. The next morning after a tasty breakfast our guide Lasin, took us through the mountains from ljoukak to Talat N’yaaquob about a 6 mile hike. Passing through some remote mountain villages. We were served a fabulous meal on our return before being driven back, by our excellent driver to Marrakesh.

A sensational experience! First day was with guide Yusef. We went camel riding, visited a cooperative that produces argan oil and had breakfast. After that we had lunch in a Berber village with a visit to the waterfalls to finish the day. Yusef was always very attentive and charismatic explaining the places we visited. With this tour I got one night in a hotel with meals included, very good! Second day started with the guide Marwan. It was a sensational day full of sights, experiences and fantastic explanations! Marwan was a fantastic guide and very concerned and he provided me the best day in Morocco. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys walking, nature and meeting new cultures. And if you have Yusef and Marwan as guides, you will be in excellent hands.

I would highly recommend this 2-day trip. The first day we got a nice tour to a Berber village and did some (1,5 hour) walking. At the end of the day 2 other guides picked us up and brought us to a very nice questhouse where they took really good care of us including very good food. The second day we did a very and long (4/5 hours) nice hike through the mountains, we saw the most beautiful views of the Atlas Mountains. We were just with the 4 of us. Visited lots of mountains villages. The tour was not touristic at all, which we liked the most about this trip!

Said was our driver for the day and he was brilliant. He told us lots of interesting things about Morocco on our journey and was happy to answer any questions we had, we would highly recommend asking for him when booking as he makes you feel very at ease! He’s super friendly and is a natural at his job! We were shown around the town by Hassan who was extremely knowledgeable and good at his job. Definitely recommend doing a private tour for this as it’s a long journey and nice to have the comfort of your own vehicle.

Mohammad was a very knowledgeable, patient and accommodating driver/guide. He was also a safe driver and followed speed limits. We indicated our interests and plans and he went out of his way to accommodate our requests. He was a fountain of information on the trip.
