From Djerba: Full-Day Ksar Ghilane Hot Spring and Villages

1. From Djerba: Full-Day Ksar Ghilane Hot Spring and Villages

Get off the beaten track and discover the oasis of Ksar Ghilane. Enjoy scenic views as you travel along the Roman road, and keep an eye out for flocks of sheep and even camels. Visit local villages and savor a freshly made tea at a local's home. After pickup at your hotel, leave the island of Djerba and travel to Ksar Ghilane. Upon arrival, take a swim in the thermal spring nestled amid a grove of date palms. Relax completely in water that's warm enough to be utterly soothing yet still offers respite from the desert heat. Next, enjoy some free time to take a walk on the dunes, go for a camel ride, or explore the dunes on a quad tour before sitting down to a local meal around the hot spring. After lunch, return to the jeep and head to the Berber village of Matmata. Stop in the village of Tamazret, a village flooded in 1969 where only a few families still live. Continue to discover a troglodyte home where your Berber host will welcome you with a warming tea of rosemary, olive oil, and honey that he has prepared himself. After this meeting, make your way to Djerba with a final stop at Toujane, a Berber village of ocher color hidden discreetly between two mountains.

What people are saying about Matmata

Journey to the desert very long 5h drive but we do not really feel them because we stop a lot to visit. Arrive at the desert everyone do these activities there is qwad or camel personally I did the qwad and it was really good. The desert is good but these are not large sand dunes 3-4 meters high, they are small dunes. Then you can bathe in the spring which is good but not very attractive, the water smells bad and there are a lot of people after a lot of bathing anyway. The meal at the restaurant is good y taste of all simple but good. Then back in the 4X4 for the return or the journey does not feel because we also stop to visit the stars wars site and the berber house. Activity a bit expensive for what you know, counting that you have to add qwad and camel if you want, but frankly, it was really good to do.

Our guide (Tarik/Tariq) was an excellent guide. He was very kind and informative. About the trip, I think the swimming and biking part is unnecessary (took so much time) but in total everything was nice. I loved visiting local home and drinking tea at their traditional house. I wish I could also join Tatatouine day trip :/ maybe next time in Djerba…

Great day in the company of our guide Aymen and his driver Abdoul A day rich in magnificent and very diverse landscapes (mountains, desert of pebbles, desert of sand, typical villages, meeting a Berber family) They managed to share with us the love of their country A big thank you to both of them for sharing their culture.

I don't have much to say, Mourad, the guide/driver, made us discover his region, we did 6 spots during the day, and nibbled/lunch in different places. I have nothing but compliments for this excursion and its organizer. See you soon
