After a short period of getting used to it in the Visitor Center at approx. 2800 m above sea level. we went all the way to the summit and admired the beautiful sunset there. Then we are at approx. 3800 meters above sea level. drove down and were allowed to eat a soup and many snacks and drink a warm chocolate. In the meantime it was getting darker and darker and we looked at the gigantic starry sky by eye and through a telescope. After the photos at the end we drove back down and finished the tour on time as indicated. Very impressive!

The experience is as a bday present from my husband and it was awesome. Seeing the sunset above the clouds was really amazing . The tour men took us down about 5000 ft and set up a powerful telescope it was so amazing we saw Saturn and it's rings and mercury and its moons. The guides explanation of why it's such a great place to see the heavens was great knowl she. The Mauna Kea visit was the highlight of our trip. Kind of starvtrekky .

Communication was quick and frequent. More importantly the guide gave us the best tour describing the geolocal formations and the local flora/fauna on our trip to the top. The sunset was topped off with some delicious hot chocolate and cookies (seriously, this was not your average Swiss miss instant!) While listening to a great talk during our stargazing. Book with these guys, you won't be sorry!
