Full description
Discover the sights and tastes of Port Louis through a guided street food tour. Let your guide lead you through the bustling streets to some of the authentic food stops of the capital.  Starting at the Caudan Waterfront, head into the heart of the city by foot to explore its hidden corners and local food stops. From Indo-Mauritian "faratas" (fried dough bread) served with Creole "rougaille" (a rich tomato-based dish), to Sino-Mauritian "boulettes" (dumplings) and Franco-Mauritian pastries, discover the Mauritian cultures by tasting their local delicacies. Indulge in approximately eight sensational tastings.  Along the way, explore the real Port Louis: the old buildings and the stories they have to tell, the Company Gardens with their majestic hanging Banyan trees, the busy market full of colours, voices and flavours, and China Town and its will to preserve its culture. Join this three-hour walking food tour and satisfy your appetite for food, history and culture.

Our guide met us on time and at the meeting point. Our guide was chatty, engaging and informative. The food was too much for me ! Not that I'm complaining. 1 filled roti, another roti type bread dish, some sort of sweet biscuit, a bowl with 5 dumplings in and I got offered another bowl ! A drink and fruit and a pudding dish at the end. Not wanting to spoil the surprise just wanting to help with food quantity. I have small appetite and was full after a few dishes and my partner has a large appetite and said he was stuffed by the end ! The food was all local and lovely. We also had a visit to the local market which was good too. Def recommend

Adrien was a very personable guide and had a longtime connection with local vendors. Some history and background of the area was given, but there was no explanation for why the foods we tasted were connected to Mauritius. No information about how the cuisine of Mauritius had developed or where the people had come from. Was told to come hungry, but there wasn't actually a lot of food - I finished the tour and was not full.

I would recommend this tour to anyone coming to Mauritius. Our tour guide Adrian was outstanding and very knowledgeable. The food that we sampled was both tasty and filling... from sweet to savory to thirst quenching, every tasting was thoroughly enjoyed. There is a lot of walking involved so wear comfortable walking shoes . I will definitely do this one again.
