We were picked up from the cruise port, the private car took 2.5hours to get to the Mekong delta but the time was filled with our tour guide’s ( law) incredible knowledge of the area, both historical and cultural. When we arrived our private boat was awaiting, we sailed a little way down the delta and stopped mid river at a fruit barge, we sampled all of the local fruits and brought some away with us ( no charge) we saw local fisherman pulling in the nets and the river traffic was amazing, local ferries teemed with motorbikes and pedal cycles, a local village where candies and rice paper were made encouraged us to have a go. we saw snake rice wine being made, and tasted the local rice wine, ( we declined the snake wine) we transferred into a small rowing boat and checked the fishing traps out before having a fabulous lunch of elephant ear fish, veg and rice. Our trip back was broken with a stop at a ham&coffee house. Relax in a hammock and drink coffee, delicious
