Full description
Depart Mexico City and spend the day touring the Izta-Popo National Park. Head to the foothills of Popocatépetl to start your hike up Iztaccíhuatl from the base of the dormant volcanic mountain. Take in the beautiful scenery and fresh air as you walk in a small group. Your own skill level will determine how high the hike will go, so you won't feel strained beyond your abilities. Popocatépetl is Mexico’s 2nd highest peak and part of the tour offers splendid views of the valley and village of Amecameca below. Marvel at the 3,700-meter high mountain of La Joya in the famous Paso de Cortés, named after the Spanish conquistadors who crossed it on their way to Mexico-Tenochtitlan in 1519.  Descend the mountain for a light lunch in the foothills to replenish your energy. Then, commence the return trip to Mexico City and reflect on the tranquility of the mountain and the miraculous wonder of nature.

Upon booking, I'd read the negative and positive reviews. I'd paid more attention to the negative reviews because usually those are the most accurate descriptions. Having said this, Fabio was a badass guide. The history lesson on the way was very informative. There was a total of 8 of us for this trip. The trail was very easy to follow. Steep but easy to follow. We worked our way up to 13,900ish feet. I was really hoping to get to 14k but clouds started rolling in, and we had to turn back. Besides, we'd agreed to that designated point. Our group was very spread out depending on climbing strength/abilities, but everybody was always within eyesight. At no point did I feel concerned. The hike lasted about 3 hours and it was an out and back of about 1.25 miles for a total of 2.5 miles. This might seem very little, but, trust me, it's just right for a couple first timers. We hiked about 900 feet of elevation. STRONGLY RECOMMEND FABIO. STRONGLY.

The experience itself was really good! Beautiful scenery! We got to climb one more base as was planned. Wasn’t easy to reach even harder to get down but totally worth the view. Guide seemed to be new to this. He seemed not to care much about the less fit group members. We as a leading group completely left others behind. When descending group was totally separated. And everyone was pretty much on its own

A Great Experience!, it definitely will challenge you if you are not used to this kind of altitude, the further we get is gate #2 at 4,500meters under sea level. The landscape from gate number 1 to number 2 has a lot of loose rock. The stop for lunch is at a local place with nice food. We arrived 4pm to CDMX
