1. From Te Anau: Milford Sound Coach and Cruise Day Trip

Discover Milford Sound on an 8-hour adventure with round-trip transport from Te Anau and a 2-hour cruise through the fiord. If you are looking to explore both Milford and Doubtful Sounds, it is worth staying one or two nights in Te Anau. There is plenty to do plus you will save yourself the long journeys to and from Queenstown. At Milford Sound, climb aboard the leisurely nature cruise for an informative, interactive, and relaxed experience. A specialist guide will provide live informative commentary and you can admire the fiord’s wildlife, waterfalls, and mountains. Enjoy lunch on board the cruise — you may bring your own lunch or purchase snacks and drinks (cash only) on the vessel. Be prepared to enjoy some rainfall during your visit; the landscape is especially dramatic when it rains in Fiordland. Enjoy the spectacular views from a dry, comfortable vantage point on board the vessel. Following the cruise, immediately board the luxury coach for the return journey to Te Anau, arriving between 4:30 PM and 5:45 PM, depending on the season.

Milford Sound: Full Day Guided Hike and Scenic Cruise

2. Milford Sound: Full Day Guided Hike and Scenic Cruise

Your full-day Milford Sound package begins with a morning walk along the Milford Track. A short boat ride will take you across Milford Sound’s Deep Water Basin to Sandfly Point for the start of a guided hike. The walk will take you alongside the cascading Arthur River and then on to Lake Ada. Stop at Giant's Gate Waterfall, a stunning and much-photographed site that is best viewed from the large swing bridge. In the afternoon you’ll enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery of the Milford Sound from the comfort of a modern, spacious boat. With outstanding viewing opportunities, you’ll take in the geological drama of sheer cliffs, massive waterfalls and more. Be on the lookout for wildlife, such as seals basking on the rocks or dolphins playing near the boat.

Milford Sound: Half-Day Guided Milford Track Walk

3. Milford Sound: Half-Day Guided Milford Track Walk

Spend some time in nature in the beautiful Fiordland National Park on a half-day guided walk to Giants Gate on the world famous Milford Track. Departing Milford Sound Wharf, the walk begins with a short boat ride to Sandfly Point. It is then an easy 3.4 miles (5.5 kilometers) alongside the cascading Arthur River, then Lake Ada, on a well-maintained track. Your destination is the Giants Gate. This scenic waterfall is best viewed from the large swing bridge spanning the river. On your return, you will be walking under ancient temperate rainforest surrounded by an array of ferns, mosses and lichens in vibrant shades of green. The small group of 12 walkers per guide provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the fascinating human heritage of the track. On completion of the walk, take the opportunity to take photos at the sign marking the end of the track, a site festooned with the boots of walkers who have made it to the end of the walk, not a single step further. Then rejoin the boat for the transfer back to Milford Wharf.

Very Good guided tour with experience guide

Walk for 4 hours along the Milford track. Walk was lovely, but could have walked the whole track if we were aware there was 4 day hiking expedition available. However, the route we travelled was good, easy going. Would recommend and to consider the 4 day hike. But book early as they sell out very fast!

An epic location, epic guide … what more could you want? Kate was brilliant, a great pace and lots of information along the track. She took the time to point out birds to my daughter who has fallen in love with NZ native birds. A great day and would recommend 100%.

I Can highli recommend this trip if you just want a taste of the 4 day hike at Milford Track. It’s beautiful - very very wet, but beautiful.
