Quebec: Self-Guided Driving Audio Tour App

3. Quebec: Self-Guided Driving Audio Tour App

Downloading the Action Tour Guide App which will function as our personal tour guide, audio tour and map all in one. Once we have done that we can begin our tour of Quebec City from the parking area directly across from Parc Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde. From there we'll drive along the Saint Lawrence River until we reach the Petit Champlain area. Dating back to the 17th century, this historic district is the oldest shopping district in North America! Next up will be the Place Royale where we will learn about the French King Louis XIV and his peculiar contribution to the flourishing of what was known as New France. Driving through Old Quebec, we will get to know the different sections of the City and understand why the settlers chose to build it in the way they did. It will be impossible to miss the gorgeous City Hall which combines the Second Empire and the Chateau architectural styles into something which is truly amazing. Then we will come across the Morrin Centre which today is the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec but in actual fact was originally the first prison in Quebec. Continuing onwards, we will drive along the fortifications erected in the early 1800s to protect against possible invasion by the United States of America. These walls are the main reason Quebec was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Looking ahead, we will see the stunning Chateau Frontenac which is the most iconic building in Quebec. It is the largest and most luxurious Hotel in the City and the most imposing architecturally. After this we will see the Cathedral Basilica Notre-Dame de Quebec and the Holy Trinity, two of the earliest churches in the City of Quebec.   Heading on to Parliament Hill, we will discover the beautiful Parliament building which honors the figures integral to Quebec's founding. Progressing on, we will arrive at the sprawling park known as the Plaines d'Abraham where we will come to an overlook which it would be impossible not to photograph. From here we will be able to see La Citadelle, a fortress built in the 1820s to defend the City from invaders. Moving on, we will pass by the Musee Des Beaux Arts, home to more than 38,000works of art. Beyond that will be the Terasse Grey where British and French armies battled in 1759. Finally, we will drive down La Grande-Allee, a truly lovely avenue lined with shops, restaurants and cafes.   Our tour will conclude back on Parliament Hill just a short distance from where we began.

It was easy to get my 2day ticket online. I was on the list when I went to check in at the desk and received my wristband. Only thing to remember is, if you remove your wristband as I had at the of my day, KEEP IT! You need to show it for the next day if you have more than one day on the Hop on, Hop off. I was surprised by this but still had the wristband in my jacket and was able to show it. I thought my online ticket and the QR code on my phone would suffice but apparently you must show the wristband.

What a great way to see Montreal on a limited schedule. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Do this tour and be sure to get off at the Saint Joseph's Oratory...breathtaking views of the city.

Great way to see the highlights of Montreal. We did three complete tours and each guide had slightly different information on the tour, which made it interesting. Francois was our favourite.

The whole tour was great. I think 1 day is enough because everything to see is walkable.

Great way to see the city. Interesting info from guides.
