Mother Temple of Bali and Lempuyang's Gates of Heaven Tour

1. Mother Temple of Bali and Lempuyang's Gates of Heaven Tour

Following a pick-up from your hotel, you will head to the majestic Lempuyang Temple in the eastern part of Bali. Along the way, pass long stretches of beautiful and pristine rice paddies, travel along winding roads and marvel at breathtaking mountains. There is a reason why this temple is known as the Gateway to Heaven. Be awed by the magical views of Mount Agung behind the temple. Your own private guide will not only snap cool shots for you but also will also explain the history of the ancient temple as well as the Balinese people and their culture. You will then visit Tirta Gangga, which is well known as the most beautiful former royal water palace in Eastern Bali. The water palace features tiered fountains, gardens, and stone sculptures of mythical creatures spouting water into bathing pools. Just outside the palace grounds, the views of the lush rice paddies of northeastern Bali are stunning. After visiting the water palace, you will then enjoy scrumptious buffet lunch overlooking Mount Agung, Telaga Waja river, and the rice fields. When you are finished, make your way to the biggest temple in Bali, Pura Besakih. It is the most important, the largest and the holiest temple of Hindu religion in Bali, and one of a series of Balinese temples. It is also well-known as the mother temple of Bali. The temple miraculously survived the catastrophic volcanic eruption of 1963. Join this unique tour and learn more about the history from your guide.

Bali: Alternative Temples Small Group Tour

2. Bali: Alternative Temples Small Group Tour

Not keen on the swarming crowds at Bali's main temples? Visit temples that are just as beautiful off the beaten track, meaning fewer tourists, more charm, and the tranquility you seek on this magical island.  Begin at the Kerta Gosa Pavilion in Klung Kung. The intact justice court building formerly used by the high king of Bali will give you some idea of the power and grandeur of the Balinese monarchs before the Dutch arrived. Goa Lawah Temple is up next. Also known as Bat Cave, its complex is built over a hilly outcrop home to thousands of bats and a giant snake king per local legend. Make a stop at Bukit Jambul, known for its panoramic views of the rice terraces. As you must be peckish by now, your guide will slow the pace down for a lunch overlooking Mt. Agung.  Continue your tour to Besakih Temple, Bali's thousand-year-old Mother Temple, perched 1,000 meters high on the southwestern slopes of Mount Agung. It is meant to be the island's largest holy site divided into three main complexes, each dedicated to the Hindu trinity. The last of the temples, Kehen Temple, is a multi-level temple on a hill home to a great Banyan Tree. An untouched gem, it requires a bit of a hike to get to the well-preserved natural sanctuary. Finally, the trip ends with a visit to Penglipuran Traditional Village, a traditional countryside community in the highlands.

Our guide Agus took us to a number of religious and cultural sites. Agus was able to provide insightful information about Balinese history as well as religious practices which gave us a better understanding of the culture we were participating in during our stay in Bali. He was able to answer all of our questions and queries regarding Balinese hinduism and what the various gods, rituals, rites and offerings are for. Besides the tour itself we greatly enjoyed Agus ability to partake in conversations from a spiritual and philosophical perspective of the differences between western and eastern civilization and what life has been like in his country in the past as well as today. He was more like a spiritual guide and he speaks English fluently

Our guide Ardika was amazing and the Driver Mr Katun made us feel so safe as we travelled the East side of the island! Ardika’s knowledge of the Balinese culture that he was so kind to share is broad and fascinating. He is very professional and allowed us to move at our own pace while still making sure we saw all the best sites and took wonderful pictures for us as well. Highly recommend!

The Lempuyang's Gates were stunning and fortunately for me the wait for a picture was very short due to there not being many tourists, I can imagine that the queue can be staggering at times and the wait a long one but there are shaded area to wait in
