Catania: Explore Mount Etna

10. Catania: Explore Mount Etna

Due to the continuous seismic activity of the Southeast Crater, the Institute of Volcanology has sent a safety notice that does not allow us to reach the top of Etna. The limit with the guides is 2920 meters above sea level. The limit without a guide instead is at 2500 meters. At the moment the volcanic tremor has not diminished, which means that until the volcanological parameters do not diminish (if the volcano does not return to a state of calm), we are not allowed to take tourists into the danger zone. The hike begins at the Sapienza refuge at 1,900 meters above sea level. You will take the cable car (round trip) up to an altitude of 2,500 meters. Here you will begin your trek on foot up to an altitude of 2920 meters, passing by the still smoldering lava flows from the most recent eruptions and Etna's most active crater at the moment, the Southeast Crater. Then your guide will take you to see also the 2002 craters with still very hot fumaroles. The return from 2920 meters is on foot till the cable car station (2500 meters).

We had an excellent day on this tour! The communication with Etna People was great, even though the website wouldn’t let us choose our accommodation for pick up we just emailed them and they arranged it for us! Our tour guide Roberto was brilliant! He was great fun and very knowledgeable, he definitely made the tour something to remember! The volcano trip was great, we had a van driven by Roberto for the day (6 people I n our group) then to do the 2nd part of the Etna ascent we joined a bigger bus which took us so high, again with great tour guides (Roberto stayed with us). We did a little cave trip too. Lunch was amazing! 2 courses plus wine. The Gorge was beautiful and we had time to go for a dip (take your swimwear). All of this is included in the cost, they even supplied walking boots, coats, helmets and torches. We didn’t want the day to end! A huge thank you to Roberto and the team!

Great tour. Etna is currently active. Everything super organized. Our guide Edoardo took care of everyone. Although the jeep tour couldn't go ahead, the tour was awesome. Partial refund went smoothly

The activity of Etna did not allow the excursion as originally planned. The guide warned us quickly and the proposed circuit was even better. Thanks to Édouard for the quality of the hike.

We couldn’t go to the summit as the volcano was a bit active that day. But it was still quite an excellent experience and Edo was a really funny friendly guide

Esperienza unica...anche se non è stato possibile arrivare fino alla cima ci è stato offerto un percorso alternative altrettanto valido...lo rifarei subito!
