  • Travel around off-road passages through old lava flows
  • Trek past and admire the most recent lava flows
  • Follow quiet paths away from the tourist trails
  • Walk around the valle del bove, the biggest Etna's caldera
Full description

Embark on a trek of iconic Mount Etna with a naturalist guide. Take in outstanding views, learn local history from your guide, visit a lava cave, and see the southeastern crater, Etna's most active area. Enjoy included trekking poles, shoes, and warm clothing.

Following your pickup, you will head in the direction of Etna. Passing off-road through Trazzere where you can see the lava flows of 1792, your guide will explain the fauna and flora of the volcano of Etna.

Learn Mount Etna's history as you travel in the direction of the Bove Valley, which is an ancient caldera formed about 64,000 years ago due to the collapse of 2 major eruptive centers. You'll soon arrive at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, where your hike starts. Follow quiet trails away from the tourist paths. Pass recent lava flows and soak up views of the coastline. Throughout the trek, you can stop to taste sandwiches and local products, at your own expense, and visit a lava cave. At the conclusion of your experience, you will be returned back to your point of origin.

Our guide, Marco, was excellent. He picked us up and then took us to a little cafe to get a sandwich to eat on our hike. It was the BEST sandwich I've ever had! Kind of like an eggplant parm but with hard boiled egg on it too. I know it sounds weird, but it was delicious! The trek is not for the weak. Its a very soft surface you're walking on and you're at 2000m elevation to start with and climb to about 2500m. Its beautiful scenery and a great workout!

Incredible day! The hike was easy, the scenery was beautiful, we didn’t see any other tour groups, the recommended sandwich was absolutely fantastic, the guides where knowledgeable and personable, and we even finished the trip by going to a local bar/restaurant that was owned by one of the guides! Overall great experience, the only reason I say 4 stars instead of 5, was the frequent stops to accommodate a group of about 16, and I wish we had went a bit higher on the mountain, otherwise I would highly recommend!

Real trekking! Physically, I had the right dose. But the three organizers share with people of different physical conditions, it's really appreciable! Short breaks are repeated and the opportunity to present the aspects of volcanoes, their eruptions, their characters, the impacts….we learn a lot of things! And yet, we don't feel like we're in CM class, because the three organizers each have a presentation temperament, sometimes full of humor, sometimes pedagogue, we don't get bored! The only downside is that our group was treated to heavy clouds on reaching the summit…so we didn't see the face of Etna up close. But we ran over the ashes on the way down like kids! It feels good!!!!!! I recommend 100%! (And Ernesto loves French wine) A very important point: between the place of departure and our accommodation, the roads turn a lot, be prepared if you have transport sickness
