This tour addresses to those who are not only interested in the imposing archaeological sites of the Greek countryside, but would also like to taste the famous Greek wine of Nemea by visiting one of its wineries. The region has produced the most qualitative and tasteful wine in Greece for thousands of years. The tour starts with a drive along the coast, on the way you will view of some Greek seaside villages and the island of Salamis (where the historical naval battle took place between the Athenians and the Persians). Your first stop will be the Corinth Canal. Opened in 1892 separating the Peloponnese peninsula from the rest of Greece and connecting the Saronic Gulf to the Corinthian Sea. You will have time to walk across on a pedestrian bridge to admire the canal closer. Continuing you will be in Ancient Corinth. Historically the city was dominated by the hill of Acrocorinth, the old Castle, the oldest and largest castle in southern Greece. The site located at the base of the hill includes the Roman Agora of Corinth, the Temple of God Apollo and a small museum. In addition to its archaeological and historical interest, Ancient Corinth is also one of the most popular religious destinations in Greece. It was here that the Apostle Paul preached Christianity, was judged by the tribunal in the Agora and established the best organized Christian church of the time. Your Next stop will be the site of Ancient Nemea. Nemea has the most wineries in Greece as grape growing has been a tradition here since ancient times. In the site apart for the museum and the sanctuary, the stadium makes the difference. One of the best-preserved stadiums, located on a higher level still preserves the tunnel through which the athletes entered the stadium. After the visit to the site, we will head towards one of the Nemean wineries. Driving through the grape yards of the largest wine production zone in Greece, we will visit one of the best wineries. People will gladly give you a small tour showing you the grape yards, the storage barrels, explaining you the procedure that takes place until the bottling. In the end, you will be offered to taste some of their best varieties while having a view of the Nemean Valley. Lastly, you will be driven towards the city of Nafplio for your last stop, considered the most scenic city, it functioned as the capital of Greece until 1834. It offers you an outstanding combination of fortresses and castles (Palamidi, Bourtzi), a huge port opened to the Aegean Sea and the unique architecture of the old city of Nafplion revealing Venetian, neoclassical and oriental elements. After walking in the idyllic old city, you will make a stop for lunch at a traditional tavern by the sea and drive up to the castle of Acronafplia for a panoramic view of Nafplio.

3. From Athens: 6-Day Peloponnese, Cog Railway & Zakynthos Tour

Explore history and culture on a 6-day tour through the Peloponnese and Zakynthos regions, and take a ride on the Cog Railway. Enjoy five nights at a 3 or 4-star hotel, and experience history and culture at archaeological sites and UNESCO sites. Day 1:Begin the tour with pickup in Athens, and make your way to the world-famous Acropolis, built during the Golden Age of Pericles. Admire the Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, Parthenon, Erechtheion, and the Porch of Maidens. Continue a short pleasant walk and pass by Herodion and Dionysus theater, and visit the new Museum of Acropolis. Drive along the mainland coast to the Peloponnese Region, and stop to see the Canal of Corinth and ancient Corinth. Stay overnight in Nafplio. Day 2: Stroll the narrow streets of the old city of Nafplio, and explore its shops and restaurant. Enjoy the view of the small island of Bourtzi, in the middle of the city's harbor, the fort on the sea, and Nafplio's trademark, the Castle of the Town. Make a stop at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus of the 15,000 spectators, and visit Ancient Mycenae, the former center of Greek civilization, home to the kingdom of the mythical Agamemnon, and stay overnight at Olympia. Day 3: Get an early start to the day, and visit the archaeological site of Ancient Olympia, the place where the first Olympic Games took place in 776 BC, in the lush valley formed by the Alfios River. See the temple of Zeus, the most celebrated in Ancient Greece. Catch the ferry to Zakynthos, check in to your hotel, and enjoy a day of leisure. Rest and explore the center of Zakynthos and have dinner at a traditional tavern before staying overnight in Zakynthos. Day 4:Finish breakfast and relax as the driver transfers you from your hotel to Zakynthos Marina to take the local boat cruise to enjoy one of the best ways to explore the island. Stop first at the blue caves and watch the sun hit the water and change its colour. See the magical turquoise shade of the water that changes to emerald green, and move on to the next stop to see the shipwreck. Explore the beach, well-known throughout the world, and return to the Marina before the driver transfers you to your hotel. Stay overnight in Zakynthos. Day 5: Board the ferry from Zakynthos Port to reach Diakofto to take the Cog Railway which links Kalavrita with Diakopto through the Vouraikos Canyon. Travel over streams climbing the narrow gorge up int o the mountains, through tunnels, and over waterfalls. Continue the tour at the mysterious magnificent "Cave of the Lakes", a rare creation of nature. See small and large lakes, 13 in total, with different colors in each one. Stop and stay overnight in Dimitsana. Day 6: Start the day with a hike along the path that leads to the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos and Monastery of Philsofos. See one of the oldest monasteries in Greece, that was built in the 19th century. Admire a beautiful view of the Lousios River under your feet.
