Naples: The Bourbon Tunnel Guided Tour with Entrance Ticket

4. Naples: The Bourbon Tunnel Guided Tour with Entrance Ticket

Come and see enchanting scenery unfold before your eyes in a secret place full of history and atmosphere. This emotional journey conducts visitors through the new section of the underground of Naples. The Bourbon Tunnel was built in 1853 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, who, concerned about the outbreak of the rebellion, asked for an escape from the Royal Palace to the barrack in Via della Pace, now Via Morelli. The work was not completed and, during the Second World War, the tunnel was used by residents of the area as a military hospital, later becoming the Hall Judicial Deposit. The war left its mark even in the subsoil where we find handwritten messages of wishes and desolation of those who lived there. In the tunnels, you will also find statues dating back to the fascist period and a unique exhibition of many cars and motorcycles, abandoned for years and then freed from piles of rubbish, arranged and illuminated ad hoc along the route.

We arrived at the restaurant just before our 6:30 start time and met with our host Lucia at the front door. She was very kind and welcoming and, even though the restaurant was not open at the time, set us up with a drink before our class started. We then went through the history of Neapolitan pizza, the ingredients and how to make it ourselves. We were shown the way by Mauricio (or Maurizio, sorry!) who is one of the chefs at the restaurant. He was very patient with us and incredibly skilled at making the pizzas. It was really fun to get our hands dirty and learn about the whole process. After making our dough, we got to top the pizzas and put them in the oven ourselves. Putting them in is harder than it looks - I misshaped mine and ruined my wife’s. They bake right in front of you, then you get to eat them along with a fried pizza and some limoncello. The whole experience was really cool and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this for anyone going to Naples.

The tour guide at Pompeii was excellent, no guide at Vesuvius but that was not a problem as it’s easier to do the walk at your own pace. The transport side was very confusing as 4 English speaking passengers got but on the bus to Vesuvius with the Italian and Spanish speaking passengers. Both drivers to and from the hotel were very erratic with their driving and maybe they should remember that they are carrying customers

Francesco was amazing!! He walked us across Spaccanapoli and we really had the chance to see Naples from a local perspective. Thank you!

Great tour, easy to follow DIY instructions and had plenty of time to do everything and more. Lunch was limited menu, but pretty good.

Very good tour with excellent info from our tour guide
