The thriving Roman city of Pompeii met its fate in 79 A.D., when Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the entire town and its inhabitants in volcanic ash, petrifying the city for over 2,000 years. The day begins with a 2-hour guided tour of Pompeii, visiting all of the most celebrated sights, and learning about the fascinating history of this special place. After the visit to Pompeii, head up to Mount Vesuvius where you will be stunned by an amazing panoramic view. Once you reach the top, stand at the crater rim and bask in the stunning panoramic view of the Bay of Naples, Capri, Ischia, the edge of the Sorrento coast, and more.

Excellent tour

For our first time in Pompeii we decided to take this tour, with Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius combined and we are happy we did, it was a long day but worth it! Pompeii is much bigger than you think. It offers a glimpse into a long-gone civilization with its cult of the body, obsession with material comforts and our guide Chiara was very clever in showing us around the best areas of Pompeii and telling us all about the life of the Romans, she was great! We then went to Mt. Vesuvius, the steep walk up took us about 30 minutes, comfortable shoes are essential. You get a stunning view of Naples and the bay and a walk along the rim of the crater, from here on a clear you can see Pompeii below. The steaming rocks, steep lava screes, and swirling mists can create an intimidating atmosphere. It was wonderful! I'd do it again any day!
