Valencia was originally named Ermita which means a secluded place due to its being a refuge from marauding Muslim pirates. In 1856, it was renamed Nueva Valencia by Spanish colonizers, in honor of its parish priest Father Matias Villa mayor of Valencia, Spain. He also had a fountain brought over from his aforementioned hometown, which currently sits in front of the Town Hall. Your day of adventure starts early, with hotel pickup in Dumaguete or the surrounding area. Take an adventurous day trip from Dumaguete to Siquijor island, well-known for its undisturbed beaches and forests surrounded by clear blue waters. During the colonial period, it was called the Island of Fire due to beams of lights created by fireflies residing in molave trees. Visit the island and its must-see places with a private tour guide and transfer. Meet and greet your tour guide at your accommodation and take a ferry to Siquijor island. After a 90-minute ride, the journey starts with a visit to St. Francis of Assisi Church where you can learn about a brief history of the town. Proceed to Paliton Beach and marvel at the island's incredible natural beauty. Next, stop in the coastal towns of Enrique Villanueva and Maria, where Salagdoong Beach is located. The highlight of the trip comes at the town of Lazi, where the signature Cambugahay Falls is located. Jump into the clear emerald water and try adventurous activities such as zip-line. Have a look at the huge Balete Tree, which is said to be over 400 years old and is believed by the locals to be enchanted. After a fulfilling day of history and water activities, ride back to Dumaguete and enjoy a comfortable drop-off at your accommodation.
