Full description
The New Orleans Garden District is a beautiful and ornate neighborhood with gorgeous, historic houses and mansions dating back to the antebellum days of the Old South. This historic neighborhood is comprised of the world’s largest collection of 19th-century southern-style mansions, some of which are still known by the names of families that built them. This whole area was once a number of plantations, eventually sold off in parcels. Originally the Garden District was developed with only a couple of houses per block, each surrounded by a large garden, giving the district its name. Bring your camera! This two hour walking tour is best enjoyed on foot in order to fully enjoy the exquisite examples of quintessential New Orleans architecture: white columns, scroll work of a cast iron fence, or a romantic Romeo and Juliet style gallery. You'll also go by Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, a historic 19th-century cemetery with above-ground tombs & statuary characteristic of the area.

We had the best time on this tour of the Garden District. We will be back and will sign up for more tours. Richard was our guide and we hope to see him again. He was warm and very friendly. Sent us off to an amazing lunch that was the bomb!!! Thank you Robert from MN

The only thing that could've been improved was when we initially met up with our guide. There were two other tours starting/meeting at the same location at the same time, so it was a bit confusing to figure out who we were supposed to link up with. Other than that, the tour was great! Group size was small (three of us) and the guide was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We went over Memorial Day weekend, so everything was in full bloom and very lush - made for some gorgeous photos. We didn't get to go inside Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 but the guide said future tours should be allowed back in soon. Beware of uneven sidewalks!

Carolyn was THE BEST tour guide! She was very knowledgeable and also very personable. This has been our favorite tour in New Orleans. The Garden District is beautiful but the information provided during the tour elevated the experience. It was great to hear stories from a resident who obviously loves the city and the people who live here.
