Full description
Benefit from pick-up at your accommodation in New Orleans, and then make your way to the Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River, Oak Alley was named for the 28 huge oak trees that line the road leading up to – and pre-dating – the plantation house. Admire the Greek Revival architecture of the house, built in the 19th century for one of the wealthiest families of the South. See original features, including antique farm machinery, and avail of amenities such as a restaurant and souvenir shop. Be led by a guide wearing authentic plantation-style clothes and hear about the first example of Antebellum restoration along the legendary River Road.

We had the best driver, who regaled us all the way to the plantation. Then, the place was immaculate, with great docents helping you understand what you are seeing. It gave you a good perspective on a part of our history. Surprised at how small house was and how much better the slave quarters were (still not great) than often portrayed by Hollywood. A great adventure.

The grounds were beautiful and the tour was great! All the exhibits are very well done and maintained. The slave quarters were very moving. We wished we’d had more time to spend! We didn’t love the transportation- our bus was a bit late for pickup, and extremely late getting us back to the city.

Plantation house was amazing but bus tour group was not

The Oak Alley Plantation Home was amazing, well worth the trip. The tour company that took me was not run so well. Picked up from hotel and dropped off at meeting point for bus, but I was left there with other passengers for half an hour as they forgot about us. Once that was sorted the rest of the tour went smoothly.!
