Full description
Depart Nicosia and journey to St. Barnabas Monastery and Icon Museum next to the Royal Tombs. Continue to the ancient city of Salamis to see the largest Roman amphitheater in Cyprus. Go to Othello’s Tower where Shakespeare was inspired to write his famous play. Admire the largest medieval building in Famagusta at the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, formerly known as St. Nicolas Cathedral and built in a French Gothic style. Get some free time in the old city to shop or explore on your own.  End with a visit to the ghost town of Famagusta, abandoned in 1974 due to the political issues between the 2 sides of Cyprus.

Nachdem der Treffpunkt (ganz einfach in Nikosia direkt nach dem Grenzübergang in der Altstadt) ausgemacht war konnte es losgehen. Cem hat auf der Fahrt erst viel Interessantes über Zypern und die Teilung erzählt. Zuerst zum St. Barnabas Kloster (ganz nett, aber auch nicht viel anders als andere ältere Klöster) und hier wieder interessante Infos zur Entstehung. Anschließend nach Salamis (alte Römer) - auch ganz nett. Anschließend zur Besichtigung der Geisterstadt. Echt merkwürdige Atmosphäre in so einer großen völlig leerstehenden und langsam verfallenden Stadt (einmaliges Erlebnis und schwer zu beschreiben). Zum Abschluss noch Famagusta dort die Mosche (umgebaute frühere Kirche), auf die Stadtmauer und Freizeit zum Essen (gute Empfehlung) und Sightseeing auf eigene Faust. Super Tagesausflug!

Knowledgeable, Interesting, and Friendly Tour
