Full description
Enjoy a tour of the extraordinary archaeological zone of Monte Alban, declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1987. Monte Alban, constructed on a plateau at 1,940 meters above sea level, is one of the most representative archaeological sites in Mexico. With pyramids, a court for the pre-Hispanic ball game, among many other mystical constructions, take this chance to explore cultural traces from different civilizations, such as the Olmecs, Mixtecs, and Zapotecs.  Continue to the town of Coyotepec, famous for its ceramics production, followed by a visit to the convent of Cuilapam. This Dominican convent dates back to the 16th century and was the site of the execution of one of Mexico's heroes from the Independence War, Vicente Guerrero. Finally, visit the village of Arrazola and head to a workshop to see how the famous Alebrijes (wood-carved fantasy animals) are made.

This was our favorite tour. Our guide, Antonio, was amazing, very knowledgable and spoke both Spanish and English perfectly. Monte Alban is spectacular, we spend almost 2 hours at the site. The visits to the Alebrije and black pottery studios were very interesting. Don't hesitate to buy some souvenirs there as you won't find better pricing or quality anywhere else. In beteen, we stupped for a delicious buffet lunch filled with Oaxacan specialties. I'd suggest to grab a plate and try a little of everything. Communication with the agency was perfect, they reached out to us the night before with our pick-up time. The Mercedes Sprinter van was comfortable and had AC.

the logistics were horrible. I booked the tour because of the schedule pick up time of 9:30 The night before -late- I received email from local company indicating that pick up would be 8:15-8:30 and had no way to contact them We got ready and waited and was not picked up until 9:45 When asked about the situation one would provide an answer Also the tour was provided in english/spanish which was not said in the booking. The staff was not pleasant nor even apologetic
