From Cusco: Sacred Valley and Moray Salt Mines

1. From Cusco: Sacred Valley and Moray Salt Mines

Meet with your group at Plaza de Armas in the historical center of Cusco. Travel first to Chinchero, a small rustic town with a long tradition of textile weaving. See various textiles woven with traditional Incan techniques.  Next, you will visit Moray and see the agricultural terraces built along the hillsides. These terraces were built by the Incas to grow an abundance of crops on less-than-ideal mountain terrain. Right next to this area, at Moras, there are over 5000 salt ponds which were used by the Incas for salt extraction. This helped preserve their foods for long periods. After learning about Incan agricultural techniques, make your way to Urubamba, the capital of the Sacred Valley, for some lunch. After lunch, make your way to two historical towns, Ollantaytambo and Pisaq. At Ollantaytambo, you will climb over 200 steps to reach the top of the ancient terraced fortress that overlooks the town. While it was too much in a day for me, I can’t fault them that I chose it! Our guide was really good at keeping us together and in order so we could see everything there was to see, and did a great job of explaining in both English and Spanish. Often things get lost when guides switch languages, but he did really well! Just be prepared for a full, busy day, and I’d say it’s worth it if you’re limited on time and want to see as many Incan remains as possible. The buffet lunch was also good.

Although i'm sure we could have paid less, it was well worth go. Our guide, Herbert Vidal, was very knowledgeable and explained more the more we asked. We didn't worry about anything, just enjoyed the Inca monumentos and ruins. The trips were confortable and the only lateness was on the train to Machupichu. We Will recomend this trip to our friends. The one thing that could be better would be us chosing the time of the train to and from Machupichu

Great trip and all you can eat buffet! Truly amazing guide, very knowledgeable and attentive, he was even translating questions and answers from Spanish speaking people to English so we could also understand. He also knew where to get best pictures and helped with them! Thank you so much, we loved it!

We were with Adolfo. He was very friendly and helpful, giving us loads of interesting information at every stop. The trek ran very smoothly, with no stop feeling rushed or dragged out. The food was good and the commodities too. Very comfortable and enjoyable trip ! Highly recommended !

trexprience is as amazing company and we had a perfect experience. Alex was the best tour guide we could have asked for! We were very happy with the experience
