The street is is where Nelson Mandela spent the first couple of nights of freedom upon his release after 27 years of imprisonment. You will walk by this residence and pass by the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. As such, Vilakazi Street is the only street in the world that can boast having had two Nobel Laureates as residents.
