Explore 2 of Umbria's commune towns, Orvieto and Todi, on a full-day tour. First, journey to Orvieto, located on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tuff. Head to the Duomo, a black and white striped building in a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Go inside to see the bronze doors, rose window, and frescoes of Luca Signorelli. After, walk around the historic center, visiting the Piazza del Popolo, Saint Patrick's Well, Corso Cavour, a variety of churches, and more. Day trip from Rome to Assisi and Orvieto - 10 hours

3. Day trip from Rome to Assisi and Orvieto - 10 hours

Your full-day excursion to Assisi and Orvieto begins when you’re met at your hotel in Rome and head out of the city on a drive through north Lazio and Umbria. Along the way you’ll admire the landscapes that change from the rolling hills of Tuscia to the forested mountains of Umbria, known as the green heart of Italy. Your first stop is Assisi, the city of St. Francis that was built from local stone. Despite the disastrous earthquake that devastated it years ago, Assisi still appears to be a perfectly preserved medieval Umbrian town, and one of the most charming. Experience the enchantment on a walk through its streets and feel the mystical atmosphere unique to this place. Visit the major churches and enjoy lunch at a spot favored by locals. From Assisi you’ll drive past Perugia towards Deruta, known as the city of ceramics. It’s possible to stop here to browse some of the shops offering local artistic products. When you reach Orvieto you’ll visit the famous Gothic cathedral and a typical wine cellar dug out of the tufo stone underneath the buildings. Orvieto is built on top of a plateau of tufa stone, which also provided the raw material for the town's buildings, including the massive Duomo. Orvieto's cathedral, the Duomo, is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy and its façade, entirely decorated by a gold mosaic, is impressive!

Our day in Umbria with Maurizio was the highlight of our trip to Italy! We visited Todi, Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoreggio and he took scenic routes throughout the day, stopping at some spectacular spots and commenting very knowledgeably about the area in general -- he is from here. He gave us as much time was we needed/wanted in each place - it was a perfect arrangement. He is a terrific driver (his car is beautiful and comfortable), has a great sense of humor and is sensitive to what his clients are interested in -- he listens. We truly enjoyed his company! HIGHLY recommend!

Wonderful Day Touring

This tour should be on everyone's to do list in Umbria. Both these towns are gorgeous to visit. Maurizio Luna from Le Vie dell Umbria was my driver. He was extremely informative, and courteous throughout the day. Sit back and enjoy the comfortable drive to these places. The countryside is spectacular and Maurizio will ensure you get the best experience on this tour. Fabulous day, that has left me with wonderful memories. Thank you

Outstanding Views

Our guide was very prompt and knowledgeable about the area. He gave us points to walk to and plenty of time. He offered to stop along the road for photos whenever we got excited about the view. At the end, we still had time left to out Day and were offered the opportunity to stop in a third town to look at the pottery there, but we were totally satisfied. It was a lovely outing for an afternoon.

Had a wonderful time with Mauro our guide. Very knowledgeable and pleasant.

It was a very nice day trip.

Our expectations were met and everything went perfectly.
