Full description

Leave the city behind in the morning and head to the Chagres River where you will board a boat for a 2-hour tour of Lake Gatun (once the largest manmade lake in the world) and the Panama Canal.

Explore the ins and outs of the nearby bays, search for wildlife, and visit the famous Monkey Island, home of the amazing white-faced monkeys. Also, keep an eye out for turtles, crocodiles, caiman, tons of bird life, and all kinds of other surprises.

Return towards Gamboa, pass the dock, and head upstream to the Indian village. Unlike most Indian village tours, this one is authentic.

Learn about the local culture, history, and crafts. Then, hike along a short trail to see the plants that grow in this area and how the locals use them (practical, artist, or medical uses) and see dance that is part of their custom.

After visiting the village, return to Panama City and stop along the way for lunch and arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon.

Great experience! The ride on Canal next to all those giant ships is superb. In addition we saw quite a lot of monkeys and another animals like iguana, birds and bats. The ingenious village is authentic and short walk through the rainforest is interesting too, just be prepared for a lot of mosquitos here.

This was a good trip but over priced. An enjoyable trip in a small boat along the Panama Canal seeing large ships and vessels and then on to monkey island, the guide had some good information about the wildlife. Continued the trip to the indigenous village which added an enriched cultural aspect to the trip. This trip is was based around the wildlife and people of the Panama Canal, very limited info about the canal itself, the museum is a good shout for that. The guide took us to a local food stop where we had lunch (not included in the tour price) it was a Panamanian fast food diner which was reasonable. All in all a good trip to be able to view monkeys, crocodiles and learn about the lives of those living on the canal.

Gonzo was an amazing guide who went above and beyond to ensure his guests had a great tour. He knew so much about the indigenous tribe as well as the local plants. He also could call the monkeys and ensured we saw three different kinds! I would definitely recommend him and this tour!
