First you will stop and see the sphinxes near the spit of Vasilevsky Island and then visit St. Peter and Paul Fortress. Experience St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, which is the first building of the ancient city of St. Petersburg. You can also visit the tombs of the Romanov dynasty in the Cathedral. Stop for lunch to rest for a bit and then continue on to your next destination. Visit the Hermitage Museum, which houses famous art collections inside beautifully-sculpted architecture. After the museum you will see The Savior on Spilled Blood, the famous church. From its very founding in 1703, the Peter and Paul Fortress (the original citadel of St. Petersburg) had been used as a prison. Ironically it housed a jail used by the imperial family to imprison political prisoners. Later, the Bolsheviks would use the prison for the same purpose.
