Pienza: Palazzo Piccolomini & Palazzo Borgia Entrance Ticket

1. Pienza: Palazzo Piccolomini & Palazzo Borgia Entrance Ticket

A visit with the audioguide allows you to discover the inner courtyard of this wonderful palace, built as an expression of the interrelations between man and nature. Wander through the hanging garden and the charming rooms of the Palazzo Piccolomini and the Palazzo Borgia, then enjoy a breathtaking view from the loggia over the Orcia Valley.  Palazzo Piccolomini was the summer residence of Pope Pius II, and is part of a complex that includes the cathedral and the square, commissioned by the Pope and built in 1459 by famed architect Bernardo Rossellino, student of Leon Battista Alberti. The rooms on the main floor are furnished with period furniture, paintings and other furnishings, testimony to a past that still remains intact. Part of the Bishop’s Palace together with the palace of Cardinal Francesco Jouffroy of Arras, Palazzo Borgia, once owned by Cardinal Rodrigo, future Pope Alexander VI, overlooks the square. Pienza is also known as having the first roof garden of the Renaissance, with views of the Val d'Orcia and Mount Amiata.

Pre-book your entry ticket to Brunello Temple for an immersive and emotional journey to discover Brunello, king of wines and of the Montalcino territory. The experience begins at InChiostro, where a virtual reality viewer station called InVolo will allow you to immerse yourself in villas, castles, vineyards, and the small villages of the vast municipal area. Passing through the uncovered cloister, descend into an underground environment where the four founding pillars that have made Brunello unique are revealed through immersive videos. In a divine painting, you’ll be invited to leave your mark through the color palette of Montalcino's colors. Artistic masterpieces will be presented in Calix, an expression of the inspiration and creative work that the land of Montalcino has been able to instill in people. Along the route, admire the frescoes of the Church of Sant’Agostino and learn the history of the area and its artistic heritage through the collections of the archaeological museum and the Civic and Diocesan Museum.

What people are saying about Pienza

Such a wonderful experience! We loved the tasting with delicious snacks. I ordered 2 cases of fine Brunello and got free shipping to California. Very much enjoyed the museum too!

A wonderful history of the family and location rich in wine making for hundreds of years! Current winery is only 7 years old and has already won awards in Europe ! Delizioso

Safety pin!

Touring the halls of this palace is a journey back in time. The halls and even the room of Pope Pius II remain as is.

Worth seeing for the breathtaking view in the garden.
