Southern Italy: Private Pompeii, Amalfi & Positano Day Trip

8. Southern Italy: Private Pompeii, Amalfi & Positano Day Trip

Pompeii is a town located in the plains at the eastern slope of Vesuvius, to the right of the lower reaches of the river Sarno. One of the largest archaeological areas in the world and Unesco World Heritage Site, it is a popular tourist destination, also thanks to the presence of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary. At the archaeological site, you'll find that the ancient Roman city buried by the sudden eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD has been brought back to light. The rain of ash and lava and the resulting thick layer of dust have crystallized, preserving Pompeii for centuries. Brought to the surface, Pompeii is the most visited archaeological site in the world. Afterwards, you'll visit Amalfi, an internationally renowned tourist destination and famous for its incomparable beauty and mild climate. The town on the southern coast of the Sorrento Peninsula, known as the Amalfi Coast, is enclosed by the foothills of the mountains of Lattari. White houses and narrow streets, many of them with steps, characterize the village, a typical example of Mediterranean architecture. It is an archiepiscopal seat. The cathedral, dedicated to St. Andrew, is the most impressive building in Amalfi: a rare beauty, built in the 9th-century and refurbished in 1203 after the Arab-Norman style, and restored several times after, has solemn steps to the side of which rises the bell tower (12th to 13th-century), which preserves intact the polychromy, typical of the Romanesque architecture of the area. The valley, for its wildlife and environmental characteristics, is now a nature-oriented reserve, declared a World Heritage Site, and will enchant on pleasant walks. At the center of the Amalfi Coast, Positano is located on the slopes of the mountains Comune and Sant'Angelo a Tre Pizzi. Thanks to the mild climate and the beauty of the landscape, Positano has been a resort since the Roman Empire, as attested by the discovery of a villa and more recent discoveries, dating back to 2004. From the village, the many typical 'scalinate' steps come down to the beaches, the Spiaggia Grande and the Fornillo, both within walking distance; others are La Porta, Arienzo and San Pietro Laurito, all reachable mainly by the sea. The town, with typical spherical shell houses, is a unique urban and architectural complex, with long steps, narrow alleys and watchtowers along the coastal ridge.

The site of Pompeii is a true gem frozen in the year 79, which allows us to jump back in time and touch a piece of history as it was nearly 2,000 years ago. What people are saying about Pompei

This was an amazing day trip we took from Rome! We booked for 6 people (3 couples) and had so much fun. JB and Cristiano were THE BEST, you have to request them. (Although JB was “terrible and had no sense of humor”— complete joke! ) We can’t wait to come back and book with them again. The tour of Pompeii was incredible, the stops along the coast were perfect, and the friendships we made will be forever etched in our hearts. THANK YOU J.B. and Cristiano for a day to remember! Xoxox The Arizona Crew

Our tour guide, Miss Hashini and our driver, Mr Pino, were accommodating, good manners and most importantly, very welcoming to us. They were patient with our kids and ease our trips throughout. We had a very pleasant journey from Rome to Pompeii and to Amalfi Coast and they are very thoughtful. Gonna miss them once we are back but to those who engage them in the future, the trip will be well worth it and such pleasant journey.

We had a great time with our guide zaynep and driver constantino. Pick up was on time and the drive was speedy but safe, especially around the hair pin turns in Amalfi. A local guide showed us around Pompeii with detailed descriptions of the local architecture and history. Lunch at the recommended restaurant was delicious and the views in Amalfi was spectacular. Highly recommend this we’ll organized day tour from Rome.

Excellent! We were traveling with another couple, so our tour ended up being a private, personalized experience for the 4 of us. It was a long, full day excursion with lots of driving time -- but worth it to see the incredible ruins of Pompeii and breathtaking views of Positano! Our guides were excellent, very informative, and fun! Would highly recommend!

The trip was amazing and our guides were very helpful. Our tour guide at Pompeii was very informative and overall was a great guide and very funny. We all enjoyed the trip very much and would do it again.
