Embark on a guided trek along Mount Etna's north side. Discover the craters at the summit, wander through the forests, stare in awe at the lava streams, and admire the eruptive fractures. Begin the trekking route along the dirt road that leads from Piano Provenzana to the summit craters of the volcano. Make a stop to see the ruins of the Hotel dell Betulle, the only visible structure that stands from the lava flow that occurred in 2002. Along the route, take the time to visit and study several volcanic morphologies, all related to a series of eruptions that have occurred overtimef on the north side of Etna. In particular, the flank eruptions have left the most evidence, especially the last one, which threatened the city of Linguaglossa. See the structures called Hornitos, which means, small over, and go up along the cinder cones. Once at the summit, look over the edge of the craters and go down inside a sandy channel to get back to the starting point.

Explore Etna Park on a full-day tour that takes you up to the Sapienza Refuge and admire views from 1,986 meters. Learn how craters and lava tunnels are formed from your guide and try local products. Put your walking shoes on and head off on a sights-filled trekking adventure around Mount Etna for experienced hikers. Discover the history and symbolism of the area and immerse yourself in its striking natural scenery. Ascent with special off-road vehicles along the panoramic street on the northern side of the volcano to a height of 2,825 mt. From this point, you'll start the ascent by walking for 4 kilometers on a path surrounded by volcanic scoria and bombs. The total climb uphill is 470 mt until you arrive at the edge of the Central Crater of Etna at a height of 3,300 mt. Once there, stop to admire the greatness, uniqueness, and processes of the volcanic environment. Enjoy the view from the roof of Sicily (visibility can change according to the weather or volcanic conditions). Then, start the downhill journey on soft scoria and volcanic ashes, passing through Piano delle Concazze (at 2,750 mt, the base of the Volcanological Observatory). Continue inside of one of the sandy, big channels, characteristic of the north-east side of the volcano and surrounded by endemic plants and seasonal torrents. Reach the downhill path and the beech forest up to Piano Provenzana, the arrival point of the excursion. The total time of the trekking trail is 6-7 hours and the total kilometers (round-trip) is 11.2 km or about 7 miles (may vary). The difficulty level is E (experienced hikers). The maximum altitude reached is 3,300 mt and the minimum altitude reached is 1,800 mt. The difference in height is 470 mt (may vary) and the difference in downhill is 1,500 mt (may vary).

After being picked up from your accommodation in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, set off in the direction of Mount Etna. Embark on an adventurous drive up to the volcano, passing by the small towns of Pedara, Nicolosi, and Zafferana Etnea and cold lava fields. Reach the Rifugio Sapienza Etna starting point where the next portion of the tour begins. Your English-speaking guide will explain to you the most interesting phenomena of the active volcano and about the plants and animals of the region. Climb into a cable car and soar up to an altitude of 2500 m. Next, continue upwards to 2900m in a special jeep. Explore the area at the foot of the main crater known as Torre del Filosofo. Marvel at the stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea if it is a clear day. During a 40-minute tour of the area, your expert alpine/volcanology guide will explain all about the geology of the area and how the hot smoking craters were formed after the 2002-2003 eruption.  After this, return to the Rifugio Sapienza to enjoy a traditional Sicilian lunch at a chalet. Once you've filled your belly, get kitted up with helmets and flashlights and begin on an unforgettable adventure inside a real lava cave. At the end of the tour,  you will be driven back to your accommodation in Catania or Taormina.

From the meeting point at Funivia dell'Etna, you’ll start the day by catching the cable car and bus to the trailhead. After trekking for about 2 kilometers, you will reach the western portion of the summit crater terrace where it is possible to admire the stateliness of the Central Crater. The trekking will continue along the crater wall before starting downhill on the steep path constituted by ash and volcanic scoria along the southern portion of the summit. Complete the extraordinary journey back to Rifugio Sapienza by cable car.

After being collected from your Catania accommodation, you will make your way with your guide to the base of Mount Etna. Once here an expert guide will lead you along a beautiful natural path, most probably on the south slope of Etna, while explaining the origins of the volcano to you. You will visit some eccentric craters (such as the Monti Silvestri) at 2,000 meters (6,562 feet), which are surrounded by an evocative lunar landscape. You will then visit a volcanic cave using the equipment provided for you (helmets and torches).
