9. Dorgali: Trek to Gorropu with Panoramic Views

Meet your guide in Orosei or Dorgali before starting the adventure with some off-road driving to descend into the valley where the trek path begins. Walk along the cliffs of Monte Oddeu and arrive at the entrance to the Gorroppu gorge in less than 2 hours. Admire the incredible rocky walls which rise for more than 400 meters over the dry river bed, making this gorge one of the deepest canyons in Europe. The canyon was formed when the Flumineddu river excavated the Jurassic limestone that formed when Sardinia was covered by the sea. Learn from your guide how the marine rocks are full of fossils from ammonites, fish and algae found in the area, and hopefully catch a glimpse of such an artifact. During the trek, discover the unique micro climate of the canyon that allowed the giant growth of the trees including the Phyllirea and the Old Yew. As you continue on the hike, the path becomes harder and harder, you may have to use your hands to proceed through the boulders. When it is no longer possible to go further, it’s time to head back.

What people are saying about Province of Nuoro

We had an amazing experience with Simone! We went in the summer and were a little concerned with the heat, and while it was a bit hot this time of year, Simone made it very comfortable by stopping in shaded areas and giving us some history of the area and information about the flora and fauna. Super interesting! The rocks down in the canyon are slick in some areas, so if you need that extra ankle support, a good hiking shoe/boot is recommended. The trail was about 5 miles long, and up and down, although mainly uphill on the way in and downhill coming back. You go into the canyon as far as you can before the boulders get so big you can’t go any further without some rope. There is a stream down in the canyon which is great after an hour or two of hiking. Pack a lunch to eat at the bottom and plenty (2 liters) of water. The road down to the trailhead is REALLY bumpy and even with the 4x4, we bounced around quite a bit! However, this made the experience even more fun, in my opinion.

Great experience! There were only two of us with the guide at sunset. Everyone has their own kayak and is loaned a waterproof cell phone case to take photos. The tour is customized to the wishes of the group. The guide knows a lot about the Biderosa oasis and the park and conveys this in good English. It was an exciting tour with a short stop ashore to take photos and have a drink. All in all a great experience that I would recommend to all my friends who also holiday there!

Super beaches, pretty crowded in high season but you know that beforehand. Wonderful tour on imposing cliffs. Cave also nice but not spectacular.

Perfect day with two very nice guides. The ride lasted two hours longer than expected! We strongly recommend.

If you love summer and the sea ... it's all what you wish!!..
