This half-day horseback excursion includes approximately 2 hours of riding throughout the mountain range just above Puerto Plata. Approximately 1000 ft above the city, there are breathtaking views over the Bay of Silver where, centuries ago, Columbus arrived by ship. Firstly, you will travel by safari truck to the old mountain road which slowly climbs up the mountains, dotted with small local farms and amber and larimar mines. After a meet and greet, get detailed information about the activities for the day before picking and choosing what sounds best to you. Take a cable car ride to the top of Mount Isabel, and enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding area. Admire the botanical gardens, and the statue of Christ that’s similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro. Visit the Fuerte San Felipe, located on a small peninsula on the Bahia de Puerto Plata. The fortress is the last vestige of the area’s colonial past. Stop at the small historical museum, and see the tiny cell in which Juan Pablo Duarte, the hero of the independence movement, was briefly confined.
