Full description

The tour starts in the afternoon with a pick-up from your hotel in Puno city. Heading to the north of the city the bus will make a stop on the road for you to see the nice view of Lake Titicaca and Puno city. The bus continues to reach Sillustani where your guide will explain the purpose of the funeral towers and the history of the last days of the Incas. Different kinds of tombs are spread out in the area, some of them dating back to pre Incan times (1000 years old) and you will also see the Incan tombs. The cemetery is located on the shores of Lake Umayo which makes the experience special. Returning to Puno, the bus will stop to see local life such as Lamas and Alpacas.

Our guide Gilbert was informative, interesting and very easy to understand. The trip was exactly as expected with the exception of a stop at a lookout. Having said that, we were running somewhat late due to pick up issues so maybe that was the reason. We learnt much and even the stop at a local farm was done well and with none of this awkward shuffling that sometimes happens. We were asked to either purchase from the farmer or leave a donation, both of which were acceptable considering we had tasted their food and had small but adequate demonstrations of their various skills. And the photo opportunities with the animals couldn’t be missed.

Quite well!

The guide was nice and spoke English very well! However, we stopped at a farm on the way to the "cemetery". There we could pet the llamas and visit the house. Sounds cute ... However, I felt more like an intruder and was ashamed of the behavior of my fellow travelers, who photographed every millimeter of the house and even a toddler. The "cemetery" itself was breathtaking! Must visit!
