Brilliant day hiking! There is an option to carry on the walk for those that are keen. We did this whilst others went back to the bus. We just had to be back at the carpark to meet them at 3pm. Volcano has stopped erupting now so no glowing lava, but it was a great hike to see black lava that is still steaming. Very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who gave us chocolate at the top. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Best thing I've done in Iceland. Highly recommended. Have to take away a star because the tour guide Boruc (polish guy) was incredibly grumpy and rude to everyone sorting pick up. Literally everyone met him with a smile and entered the bus with a puzzled expression. Something was wrong with the main office but he should have handled it better, it wasn't our fault. The hike started out much the same, but to be fair he warmed up and became friendlier as the day went on. Stockholm Syndrome took hold and I ended up looking him. The bus had a bad engine smell too.

Guide was very nice and explained a lot. Transport was great, bus was ahead of time. There is currently no fresh lava to be seen, reddish shades perhaps on the evening tour?! You don't really need a guide for the hike alone, easy to find. The way back could be done at your own pace. Overall package was good though.
