10. Cologne: 90-Minute Rheinauhafen Walking Tour

Even in ancient times, the river Rhine was the lifeline of the city of Cologne and during the Middle Ages, it was the source of the enormous wealth of the city. After a flood combined with an ice drift had destroyed the port facilities in front of Cologne’s city center and many ships in 1784, the city administration decided that building a safe port was inevitable. The former leisure island Werthchen was transformed into a harbor, fulfilling all requirements of the industrialization and the rapid growth of the city. During the 1970s, the importance of the Rheinauhafen as an industrial harbor decreased constantly, therefore a new concept for the port area was due. Ony your walking tour through the new Rheinauhafen, pass the Sport- und Olympiamuseum, the Kranhäuser, the so-called Siebengebirge and the Krafthaus. Learn about old and new buildings, the former and the current use of the buildings, and about the meaning of the chosen street names. We decided to do a tour of Cologne's old town because it was our first time in Cologne and we didn't just want to marvel at Cologne Cathedral. Our guide, Sebastian, introduced us to Cologne Cathedral and the old town in an entertaining and humorous way. The tour is very interesting not only for tourists but also for locals. Two hours that you should schedule without hesitation at any time for a visit to Cologne. Sebastian is a great guide, who not only impressed with his entertaining, informative manner, but also with a small singing performance and animal-related knowledge of Cologne's city history. We hope that our guide will also be next time and give full marks plus stars.

We've done a few tours before, but this was one of the best. The guide not only shared his considerable expertise, but also incorporated current issues. All questions were answered spontaneously. His Rhenish sense of humor was refreshing. The 2 hours passed very quickly. We were a small group as one other person didn't show up. We immediately implemented his recommendation for a visit and dinner in a smaller brewery restaurant, and that was also a hit!

Very interesting tour. The lady - guide - was very competent and had a suitable story for every sight. Friendly service and moderate prices. Any time. We recommend.

Very nice boat trip in between and incredibly nice staff! You should definitely join :)
