Full description
Leave the bustling city center of Rome behind and enjoy a bike ride through the Roman countryside, which inspired 19th-century travelers such as Byron, Goethe, and Stendhal. Ride on history's first highway: the Appian Way, also called Regina Viarum, which still retains most of its original paving. Constructed in the 4th century BC, it was used as the main route to transport military supplies and for important families to build their tombs and mausoleums. On this ride, you will go past ancient Roman ruins, statues, an imperial palace, Christian catacombs, and pagan mausoleums. The tour will stop in front of the mains tombs and catacombs (Saint Callixtus and Saint Sebastian) to explain how this road was conceived as a place of union between political, military, and religious power. You will also discover the wonderful Aqueducts park, the only park in the world that preserves 2 Roman aqueducts that are still in excellent condition. In the second half of the tour, go back through the Caffarella park, which contains several archaeological sites and a working farm and has considerable ecological value.

Emiliano was our guide and he was amazing! We spent the whole day with him. Rome Your Way was also very accommodating. I had originally thought we booked an ebike tour when we hadn't. But they thankfully had ebikes available for €15/person extra. I'd use them again and highly recommend them.

We loved this tour! Emiliano was an incredible guide. So knowledgable about the area and the history. Very passionate about telling the story of the Appian way and Rome. The biking was fun and exciting. It was a great memory shared with my son on our last day in Rome.

We loved this 1.5 hour bike ride. It allowed us to discover the Roman countryside so close to the center, the history of the Appian Via and the Romans from antiquity to the Middle Ages. The historical and anecdotal information of our sparkling guide also allowed us to better appreciate the visit of the Colosseum and the Palatine made the next day without a guide. Thank you Katerina!
