Full description
Start your visit at the Capuchin Museums to learn about the place's culture and spirituality. Continue towards the Crypt of the Three Skeletons, the only area where the human skeleton can be seen in its unadorned entirety. Next, visit the Crypt of the Leg Bones and Thigh Bones. Admire the Crypt of the Pelvises, which contains 2 Capuchins serenely reclining in an arched position. Look at the crosses on the ground, which mark the graves of the 7 Capuchins. Stroll through the Crypt of the Skulls and check out its famous hourglass. Learn about how, when the Capuchins left their old friary near the Trevi Fountain, they decided to transfer the bones of friars who had been buried under the Church of Saint Bonaventure. In accordance with Capuchin law, which did not allow burials to take place within the churches, an underground cemetery was designed. Here, they deposited the bones brought from the old friary. Since then, the crypt has been the burial place of the Capuchins.

Our guide Slob was excellent. Meeting us in the nearby Piazza he guided us to the Crypyts and guided us through the museum. Slob was very knowledgable about the history of the Capuchins and made the tour topical to each nationality withing the small group tour. Slob, our guide then lead us into the Crypts. This is just a mind boggling experience. Again, our guide was hugely knowlegeable about the history of the Crypts and enthralled our group with details about the Capuchin Crypts and other historical facts which expained why such a collection had been made. Well worth a visit with a guide like Slob who was excellent. We really enjoyed our visit to the Crypts and we would highly recommend Slob as a guide too!

I wish I could remember the guides name but he was excellent. It was very interesting how he could string together several historic stories that all tied into where we were. My only disappointment is that I couldn't take pictures. But that shouldn't deter you from this wonderful tour. Highly recommend!

Very interesting and cool to see all the bones! Didn't know much about the crypts of capuchin before coming to Rome but I think it is a hidden gem and must to see! The tour wasn't too long so didn't take up too much of the day and close by the Spanish steps so could see other popular tourist attractions nearby. Our guide Guilano was informative and kept the topic light with some jokes since seeing bones can be pretty dark.
