La Traviata is a three-act opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi on an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It was first performed on March 6th, 1853 at La Fenice opera house in Venice. Verdi insisted on finding an original and provocative idea for the audience in Venice, and decided to base his work on La dame aux Camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas (fils). The piece was originally titled Violetta, after the protagonist. This famous opera remains among the most performed masterpieces of the entire lyric tradition. Concerts take place in magnificent Waldesian Church (via IV Novembre 107) with an exceptional acoustics. The church is situated in an historical building in the center of Rome, only 300 metres walk from Piazza Venezia. A romantic walk around Piazza Venezia and Pantheon after the concert will be a perfect culmination of the musical evening. After the concert we would like to invite you for regional dinner served in cozy, family, Italian restaurant - Enoteca Corsi (address: Via del Gesu 87/88, 00186 Rome).
