Full description
Take a small group, guided tour of the Vatican City, and discover the papal art collection in the Vatican Museums. See antique statues, such at “Laocoonte” (“Laocoön”) and the “Apollo Belvedere,” along with mosaics from ancient Roman villas. Walk through the "Garden of Italy" in the Gallery of the 16th Century, see maps by ancient cartographers, and more. Next, go into the Sistine Chapel to see Michelangelo’s famous frescoes. Learn the meanings of his sacred art and their relationship to concepts of beauty. Enter St. Peter's Basilica to see yet more staggering art by Bernini and Michelangelo, before admiring Bernini’s colonnades on St. Peter's Square. Look at the dome of the church and the famous chimney that emits white smoke upon the papal election. See the balcony of the papal benediction at Urbe et Orbi. Your guide will talk about the concept of Christianity and the papacy throughout history, and how they have often been apart. Hear stories of intrigue and conspiracies in the papal court, displays of power, status, and the wealth of the popes. Hear about modest popes who wanted nothing else than quiet contemplation and a return to the original concept of Christianity.

3 hours of visit with an excellent guide who spoke perfect French and who was able to adapt to our 3 teenagers and interest them in the visit. The visit does not always allow you to stop where you would like, but it allows you to get to the point while having historical and artistic explanations. With a guide we had the impression of being VIPs and passing easily, which is appreciable in view of the world! And to spend where few pass. I highly recommend!
