Full description
Make the most of your time in the Vatican City with an early private access to the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Be there prior to the arrival of the general public, and appreciate the beauty of Michelangelo's works minus the large crowds. After meeting with your guide, commence the tour by visiting the Sistine Chapel, the site of the papal conclave. Enter the chapel ahead of other tourists and learn about its history and the techniques behind its architectural design. Of course, you also get to marvel at the ceiling painted by Michelangelo before you head over to your next stop. Upon arriving at St. Peter's Basilica, your guide will detail all of the facts and information that you need to know prior to entering the holy site. Equipped with your new knowledge, explore the beautiful Baroque and Renaissance art collections that adorn the basilica. Don't forget to look up and enjoy the basilica's mesmerizing dome, another one of Michelangelo's works. The tour ends in St. Peter's Square, giving you a panoramic view of the basilica's exterior. Having explored two holy sites before noon, you will be left with plenty of time to explore the city on your own.

Know before you go

  • Due to new health and safety regulations, the Vatican currently opens at 8:30 AM rather than 8:00 AM. Despite the later start, this early entrance tour is in all other ways identical to the 7:30 AM tour. By arriving 30 minutes before Vatican doors open, you can get into the museums first and directly proceed to the Raphael rooms and the Sistine Chapel before the crowds, and enjoy them with as few people as possible.
