Silent Night Oberndorf Christmas Eve Tour from Salzburg

10. Silent Night Oberndorf Christmas Eve Tour from Salzburg

Enjoy an unforgettable Christmas Eve! This 4 hour excursion to Oberndorf, near Salzburg, will make this Christmas one you will never forget: for in Oberndorf stands the Silent Night Chapel, where the famous carol was first performed. Mohr remembered the poem, Silent Night, which he had written two years previously, and Gruber wrote out a simple tune that he could play on the guitar. And that was how the famous song was born. It is traditional in Salzburg and the regions around it, upper Austria, Bavaria and Tirol, to turn out all the electric lights on Christmas Eve. The church will be lit only by candlelight. There is no more heartwarming place to take part in the Christmas festivities than the Oberndorf Chapel. Of course, the proceedings end with Silent Night , and whatsmore, in several languages. Before visiting the chapel, a knowledgeable guide will accompany you along the Salzach, through the snowy foothills of the Alps.

Great family experience. Went with my wife and kids 5 and 8 and it was just us and 2 other ladies. I wasn’t sure how taking the kids would work out but they loved it and were able to be fully involved. After the struddle and cookies went in the oven we sat to eat the goulash and probably the best I’ve had. Kids both loved it as well. We sampled our struddle and cookies after and what we couldn’t eat we were able to carry home. The building we cooked in was built into the stone and had a cool atmosphere and overall the experience exceeded my expectations.

We had a wonderful interactive baking class, with every detail explained and a delicious result! A small Goulash lunch is provided before you get a chance to eat your creations. All the recipes are on their Facebook page, I look forward to trying the recipes again at home.

Amazing tour. Covers all the major attractions near Salzburg. Our tour guide was Alenka and she was brilliant. So full of energy and provided us with a lot of information on the history of Salzburg and all the attractions covered. Highly recommend.

I can only recommend the boat trip. It was rich in information and a lot of fun. A big thank you also to the captain, who turned the boat trip through 360 degrees and turned it into an unforgettable highlight.

Very fun tour, great captain, you can see a lot of sights from the boat.
