Full description
Travel back to a world of colorful customs and ruthless pride, as you walk the streets of San Diego’s Old Town, a neighborhood known as the first town of California. The 2.5-hour walking tour explains how the area has been restored to represent what the neighborhood looked like during the 1820-1870s, and includes stops at local restaurants to savor the great cuisine and sample a few drinks. As you check out the original buildings, built with the only natural resources the land had to offer, you will learn how and why the natives thrived in their dry and warm environment. Hear about bull fights, horse races, pistol shooting matches, dances, and political events, all carried out in the town plaza during the Mexican period, and then later during the great American Gold Rush. Discover the difference between the two, and the marriage between the cultures. As one of the nation’s most haunted neighborhoods, the ghost stories of the tour will have you checking over your shoulder for lingering spirits. Visit the second oldest cemetery in San Diego, and learn the stories of some of the notorious people who still haunt the streets of the eerie neighborhood. Visit the Whaley House, considered the most haunted house in America and see why the past still haunts the present.
Includes
  • Food tasting at various restaurants (for most people this is enough for a full meal, though it is suggested that you eat a light snack before the tour if you're absolutely ravenous as the food samples are spread throughout the evening)
  • Some alcoholic beverage samples are also included (samples usually include beer, margarita, and sangria, but are subject to change without notice)
  • Gratuity for your hard-working, friendly guide!

Angela was a great tour guide, who made the tour very entertaining and interesting with her charm, wit and a lot of background knowledge. 4 stops with taccos, chips and salsa plus dessert - after that you don't need anything more for dinner. We had a lot of fun and it was delicious too! We recommend.

I enjoyed this tour! Plenty of food (try not to eat before the tour!) and it was all good. The margaritas could have been a bit larger considering the price per person for this tour. Overall, it was a very good tour, and I liked that it ended on Old Town. I'm glad I went, but would not pay to take it again because some of the food was pretty ordinary, and the margaritas were too small. I do recommend it, however, especially if you are in San Diego for the first time.

Plenty of food, could use more drinks.

There was food at all the stops and you get plenty to eat. The drink was very small at the first stop and would have liked it to be bigger. We got a bigger drink at the third stop but it wasn’t as enjoyable. You can order additional drinks and food but have to eat or drink quick as the stops are timed. Our guide was very informative.
