San Martín de los Andes: Double-Deker City Bus Tour

1. San Martín de los Andes: Double-Deker City Bus Tour

Start the experience at the meeting point located in San Martín Square. Simply look out for the remarkable English Routemaster with a 0600 Leyland engine, an English vehicle which, due to its classic design and well-perserved appearance, was on display at the Buenos Aires Automobile Museum for a while.  The tour lasts an hour and a half and goes through the city and its surroundings. Hop aboard and your guide will tell you about the history, culture, and architecture of the city. Cruise for 15 miles past San Martin de los Andes' main tourist attractions. Begin on Avenida San Martin and then head off along National Route 234 to the Vega Maipú to witness the urban growth of recent years. Back in the city, your guide will shed light on the historic architecture and the cultural makeup of the area.  Arrive to the shores of Lake Lácar before continuing up the Cuesta Juez Quiroga to the former Hotel Sol de los Andes, from which the view is stunning — an unforgettable postcard image of the city, mountains, and lake. Drive three more miles along the route "Siete Lagos" up to the Paihuen cabins, where the TV show, "Alen, luz de luna," starring Gustavo Bermudez, was created in 1996. The tour ends at the point of departure, in San Martín Square.

Admire the splendid views of Lácar Lake before making a detour towards Quila Quina. As you travel, find out more about the story of the local indigenous peoples, the Mapuche, and how they live. Also, learn about the flora and fauna of the National Park. Arrive in Quila Quina where a local Mapuche community lives, grow vegetables, and farm animals. In this area there is also a private residential village with summer houses. Head down to the beach with a pier and restaurant where you can have lunch. Admire the beautiful panoramas of the Andes mountains from the viewpoints. Finally, either return to San Martín de los Andes via the Arrayan circuit - driving across the Patagonian Andean Forest or, return back to town by taking a 30-minute boat trip for an additional fee.
