Embark on a day out in Sassi and explore the ancient neighbourhoods with a live guide. See a series of grottoes carved out of limestone and marvel at the Sasso Barisano and the Sasso Caveoso.

Your tour will begin at the meeting point in Via Alessandro Volta. From here, your expert guide will lead you to the Church of San Francesco, situated in the historic centre of the city. Next, you’ll continue along a panoramic road comprised of narrow streets and winding alleys. After arriving at the Rupestre Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, you’ll find a pleasant surprise waiting inside: a classic example of the traditional culture of this remarkable city.

Afterwards, you’ll move on to visit a typical Matera cave-house before continuing along Via Madonna delle Virtù and Porta Pistoia "Pert P’stèl" to conclude your cultural adventure.

In Matera I felt it was a must to have a person who would explain and introduce you to the city, which is why I booked a guided tour. Our guide Giuseppe was very very good, really top! I did not give 5 stars for the general evaluation because to ensure that the group was almost small (these days there would have been) I asked how many of us were I was told in 15, that there would also have been, we left and we were in 30, when we arrived at the end of the tour we were more than 40 because people on the street had gathered to listen to the guide, who kindly asked who didn't. This saddened me a little. But otherwise it was a good experience and if you can take the tour between sunset and evening, very suggestive.

Super 2-person tour through Matera and the Sassi With Maria, a Swiss woman, we had probably caught the best. She spent three hours with us through Matera and told us everything about the Sassi, the history, development, background ... she knew her way around extremely well and was super motivated to pass on her knowledge. We had a lot of fun and we can highly recommend the tour and the guides.

We have just finished the visit with Anna, who was our guide. What to say, an in-depth tour not only of the most significant places but also of life and typical customs through the city of Matera, explained with passion, great preparation and study and, of course, with love for one's work. So, we sincerely congratulate Anna, people like that make this world a better place!
