San Francisco: Muir Woods, Sausalito, and Sonoma Wine Tour

6. San Francisco: Muir Woods, Sausalito, and Sonoma Wine Tour

This combo tour consists of 2 parts: A tour to Muir Woods & Sausalito + Half Day Wine tour to Sonoma. The driver will pick you up from downtown SF between 8 AM and 815 and from the Wharf between 815 and 830. On the way to the Woods, you will cross the Golden Gate bridge and make a short stop to take pictures of the bridge, the bay, and downtown San Francisco. Then we will drive you to the Muir Woods where you will spend 1hr 20 minutes walking and seeing the tallest trees in the world. Admire coastal sequoias, cooling their roots in the Redwood Creek and lifting their crowns to reach the sun and fog. Muir Woods is a National Monument founded in 1908 and is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, one of more than 400 national park units across the country. It is both a refuge and laboratory, revealing our relationship with the living landscape. It is located 12 miles (19 km) north of San Francisco. It protects 554 acres (224 ha). Muir Woods is known for its coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) trees. They are the tallest living objects on Earth and are related to the giant sequoia of the Sierra Nevada. They can reach 400 feet or 130m. The trees come from a seed no bigger than that of a tomato seed. While most of the redwoods in the monument are between 500 and 800 years old, the oldest is 1,200 years old. Then we will take you to Sausalito where you will spend 1 hour strolling the waterfront, visiting art galleries and souvenir shops, or having lunch. At around 1230pm another van will pick you up from Sausalito to go to Sonoma. The ride takes about 30 minutes. You will visit two different wineries of our choice. Usually one is small the other is large. You will taste at least 4 different wine varieties at each. After the second tasting, or in between the tastings, we will go to historic Sonoma Plaza to spend there about one hour. It is California's largest town square surrounded by historic buildings, great restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, art galleries, and dozens of winery tasting rooms, all of which are located on one of 4 sides of it. Sonoma Plaza is surrounded by several reminders of the town's important history, which dates back to the early 1800s. Arguably the most significant is the Mission San Francisco Solano, founded in 1823, while other nearby landmarks include the Blue Wing Inn, Sonoma Barracks, the Toscano Hotel, the Servants Quarters (the remains of La Casa Grande), and General Vallejo's Home. The Bear Flag Revolt took place here in 1846 and led to the founding of the short-lived Republic of California. After two tastings and lunch, we will take you back to your hotels.

What people are saying about Sausalito

Anthony (our guide and driver) was amazing. He is super knowledgeable on wine but he also knows a lot about the San Francisco area and shared a lot of anecdotes. Also, he is hilarious and we spent most of the tour cracking up at his jokes. The wines we tried were amazing, and the wineries we visited were beautiful. The group size is perfect (not too small, not too big). A must do for those who want to enjoy (a lot of) Sonoma wines.

This half day wine tour is a fabulous experience. It was more than a wine tour. We were picked up from Union station and stoped two other places , fisherman warf and Sausalito to pick up more passengers. The Driver Grady provided great history on both areas and made it a great bus tour. By the end of the tour he was Uncle Grady . My friend and I had fun.

We actually had to be switched to the full day wine tour because there wasn’t enough people in the half day so they cancelled it. But the tour was great. We got to experience 3 different wineries and had lunch in Sonoma. Staff was friendly. The drive was scenic.

Our drivers were friendly, punctual, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our time at Muir Woods as well as the wine tasting. Excellent tour.

Amazing day, lovely wines, beautiful views and the driver was great! Highly recommend !
