On the iconic black sand beach, discover magnificent basalt columns as well as the rock pillars named Reynisdrangar. Be sure to watch out for the unpredictable sneaker waves while enjoying the magical view of the beach and Dyrhólaey cliffs in the distance. Between June and August, you can enjoy the company of hundreds of puffins that like to nest in the columns. South Coast: Glacier Hike and Tour from Reykjavik

2. South Coast: Glacier Hike and Tour from Reykjavik

A day on the glacier is a great way to experience Icelandic nature. Only 2-hours away from Reykjavík is a glacier called Sólheimajökull (Solheimajokull glacier), an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull (Myrdalsjokull glacier). It lies just east of the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano that erupted in the spring of 2010 and caused trouble all over Europe. When arriving at the glacier, your guide will get all the necessary equipment ready such as crampons and ice axe and then the group will head up to the glacier. Your guide will lead you through wonders of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses while telling you everything about the behavior of these ever-changing giants. About 2-hours will be spent on the ice. On the way back to Reykjavík, there will be a stop at the impressive waterfalls of Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

What people are saying about Seljalandsfoss

There was a misunderstanding with the pick up place and they called us & came and picked us up at a bus stop close to where we were- which was AWESOME. This tour was GREAT. So much to see and so economical and convenient. The Seljalandsfoss Waterfall was amazing and the one place I wish we had more time at- 30 minutes was not enough! Definitely walk behind it because when else will you?! Skógafoss waterfall was so beautiful. If you wanted to walk the stairs and take pictures at the front an extra 30 minutes would be nice- but not necessary. There was a perfect amount of time at the black sand beach & it was the perfect lunch spot- getting coffee @ the cafe there was much appreciated. The glacier was the highlight of my trip personally and our guide taught us SO MUCH which in my opinion made the trip 10 times cooler! I was in love with this day and it made my 24 hour layover (due to a very late flight) getting here SO WORTH IT!!! Just book this trip.

Our entire day was terrific! The waterfalls were spectacular, the beach beautiful and the hike on the glacier (thank you Alex!) was a hike of a lifetime - even in the rain. Our guide, Cora, adjusted the trip so that we could get much seen (dry) before the rains came. This was hands down the best tour on our trip to Iceland

Our Guide, Jakob, was fabulous. He provided interesting and fun dialogue while driving. I felt very safe on the glacier hike as he was extremely diligent on the instructions for safety and keeping track of our group along the way. The stops were great - beautiful scenery. It was an overall amazing experience!

I write in Italian because even if the guide is only in English Corina and James were fantastic, friendly and nice, everything well organized enough time to admire the natural beauty, the exciting glacier hike. Congratulations.

Amazing experience. Kuba (not sure how to spell it!) took us around the south coast and gave us an exclusive insight on the elves in Iceland! The glacier was super impressive :)
