Once in, explore the beautiful rooms in the palace, now a museum featuring medieval furniture, elaborate mosaics, and archeological exhibits.  Learn about its eclectic history, from its origins as a Byzantine fortress, then the knights’ residence, later restored under the Italian occupation after an explosion, and now home to a museum. Adjoining the palace is a wonderful walk around the fortified town walls, with the entrance at the top of the Street of the Knights.  Stroll down the preserved medieval street that houses seven inns, one for each of the Knights’ birthplaces – England, France, Germany, Italy, Provence, Auvergne, and Aragón.

Private Tour in The Jewish Quarter & Grand Master's Palace

2. Private Tour in The Jewish Quarter & Grand Master's Palace

The medieval city of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known throughout the world. Less well known, however, is the Jewish Quarter that once flourished within its walls. This exclusive half-day tour introduces you to the fascinating Jewish heritage of Rhodes Old Town, before taking you back in time to its medieval origins. Start with a stroll through La Juderia, the Jewish Quarter, wandering along the narrow, winding lanes, learning from a local knowledgeable guide as they bring to life the history of La Juderia and the Jewish people who made Rhodes their home.  Along the way, visit notable Jewish landmarks including Alhadeff Park and Alhadeff Street, named after a prominent Jewish family, the Square of the Martyred Jews and its seahorse fountain, and the Holocaust Memorial. You’ll also visit the Kahal Kadosh Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Greece, and the Jewish Museum of Rhodes.  Next, take a journey back in time to the medieval period. The guide will describe how the battles and sieges fought by the Knights of St. John shaped the town we see today. Admire medieval monuments and walk along the famous Street of the Knights, the best-preserved medieval street in Europe. The tour concludes at the 14th century Palace of the Grand Master, once home to the leader of the Knights of St. John of Rhodes. Today it’s a museum housing medieval furniture, elaborate mosaics, and archaeological exhibits from Rhodes.

What people are saying about Street of the Knights

We misunderstood that the tour was strictly a walking tour. My mother is 77 so we were a bit concerned. Our guide, Nikos, was amazing! He was so accommodating and made the experience so wonderful for all of us. He’s very knowledgeable and we leaned so much. In addition, he is so caring and kind. The company was also wonderful and got us a driver for a short scenic tour. Would definitely advise to book this tour!

We had very good experience with our guide Maria, an alive enciclopedia. We heard many interesting information and had enough time for visiting and pictures. From us, directly 5 stars for this tour. Thank you very much Maria.
