Wroclaw: Giant Mountains & Valley of Palaces Day Tour

1. Wroclaw: Giant Mountains & Valley of Palaces Day Tour

On this full-day excursion you’ll visit the Karkonosze Mountains, also known as the Giant Mountains, and the fascinating Valley of Palaces and Gardens and unique 19th-century mansions. Most of the sites are situated at the foot of the largest mountain range in the Sudetes. The scenic route takes you from Wrocław to the extraordinary 14th-century Siedlecin Tower House. Admire one of the most outstanding examples of medieval art: the 14th-century polychromes that portray scenes from the Arthurian legends of Lancelot. The next stop is a late baroque palace in Staniszow where you'll sample Echt Stonsdorfer (traditional herb liqueur) from the village. From here, travel to Karpacz, one of the most popular mountain resorts, situated directly at the foot of the Karkonosze range. Here you'll visit the Vang Stave church, considered to be the oldest wooden church in Poland and a unique relic of Nordic Romanesque architecture dating back to the 12th century. It was originally built in Norway and was moved to Silesia by a Prussian king in 19th century.

Polish Sudety Mountains Trip

2. Polish Sudety Mountains Trip

Experience the beautiful scenery of the Karkonosze, the highest part of the Sudetes mountain system, where the Czech-Polish border runs along the main ridge. During a daylong trip to Karpacz, where the highest peak of Karkonosze, Sniezka, is situated 1602 meters above the sea level, you will have the opportunity to see the beautiful Lower Silesian towns and villages. See the Vang stave church, which was built in the twelfth century in Northern Norway without any nails and moved to Karkonosze by Frederick William IV of Prussia in the nineteenth century. Take a chairlift to Kopa, located 1322 meters above the sea level. A hike from Kopa to Sniezka takes only about 50 minutes. The track runs through Norwegian tundra, where distinctive three-centimeter heather grows and the Bogs of Rownia pod Sniezka, which is one of the greatest in Europe. Visit the Museum of Sports and Tourism and learn about the history of the Karkonosze region, the first region in Europe where people enjoyed winter sports and where luge and skiing were popularized.
