Full description

Embark on a full-day guided tour from Tel Aviv to the Judean Hills and the shores of the Dead Sea by bus. Visit the ancient palace of Masada, ride a cable car, and admire the Qumran caves on your drive back. Perched on a high plateau, the ancient fortified palace of Masada became a refuge for Zealots who took a stand against the Romans, until the mass suicide of the zealots in 73 AD. The ruins sit precariously on a plateau some 1,300 feet above sea level and measure 2,000-foot long by 1,000-foot wide. They boast extraordinary views of the Dead Sea and the Judean Desert. It is an exhausting climb, but we will ascend by cable car to make life easier. Explore the fortress built by King Herod in around 37 BC. Visit the remains of the palaces and see mosaic floors, Roman baths, and other findings.

Masada was also home to the oldest synagogue in Israel, but one of the most remarkable features is the 12 water cisterns, each with a capacity of up to 140,000 cubic feet. Following the tour of Masada, you will drive to the Dead Sea Mineral Beach located in the Jordan Rift Valley, between Jordan and the West Bank.

It is the lowest place on earth and its high density of salt makes for a unique experience as you float on the beautiful aquamarine surface. Take a mud bath and benefit from the therapeutic qualities of the natural Dead Sea mud. You will then drive back to Tel Aviv, with an on-route view of the Qumran cave, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.

There's not enough space here for me to paste my full review.. ill add it to tripadvisor.. but.. overall it was good but: 1.We spent 30 minutes to an hour at the AHAVA Visitor center-- a place to buy products.. This was a waste of time. I did not want to go here. I would have rather spent this time at the DEAD SEA.. plus this place was NEVER mentioned in the tour description. Dont force people to go to places that are not mentioned in the tour description. This was a waste of valuable time. AHAVA needs to be part of a separate tour, where it is mentioned. 2. In the morning, you will meet at one place to get on a bus and then go to another place where you will get on your designated tour bus. 3. Our tour guide was spectacular and brilliant , i believe her name was Silvan/SIV..something like that. 4. The mud at the bottom of the Dead Sea is very slippery- be careful!! But you will not have enough time there due to the time wasted at the AHAVA visitor center.

Nice tour, and well organized. I recommend joining a small group. We were pretty efficient by being the first of all the other groups without chasing people around and without staying too little in the places we were visiting. Efficiency helped us not to spend time in long queues to enter or to be served. Our tour guide Ziv was fun and knowledgeable; he answered all of our questions in his iconic way. Regarding the dead sea, my expectations were low but definitely exceeded them; really worthed it. However, it was too crowded regardless we were one of the first groups there. Take your towel, flip-flops, and sunscreen. Even though 1,5 hours seemed a lot, I could easily spend one more hour enjoying a relaxing drink at the bar.

Overall this is definitely worth doing since it’s hard to access these places by public transportation. Biggest complaint is depending on where your starting point is, you have to switch busses a bunch of times (coming from Tel Aviv I switched 4 times). It wastes a lot of time (at least 2 hours), therefore limiting your time at the Dead Sea and Masada. I recommend trying to find a tour that cuts this out. Our guide Daniel was great, perfect English, very knowledgeable, and lively. The lunch is overpriced and gross but that’s typical for big tours. Spent the perfect amount of time at the Dead Sea but the group all agreed we should have spent more time at Masada.
